Hi, I’m G0RiLLaJamb0, I have just joined the HealthUnlocked today.

Hi I see you are taking HRT so that's a good option that people have talked about on here. You don't mention fractures. I have had several fractures over the last few years so my treatment has requires bisophates, had alendronic acid for 5yrs ,and now Romosozumab injections for a year.
I exercise, I work outside with a physical job ,I eat healthy allotment food, take calcium and vitamin D.
I hope the HRT works well for you ,and your dexa scan improves. You can only do your best with this disease, its good you know now about it,I am 10yrs older than you and HRT would have been a good option. All the best
Hi Freshair24,
Thank you for your comments and best wishes. I have only been on HRT for 21 months. I am due to have a REMS bone density scan towards the end of March, so hopefully it may show some improvement or even stabilised my bone density scores. Up to now, and I “touch a lot of wood and keep my fingers crossed” when I say this, but I haven’t fractured and I am classed as severe with my DEXA scan scores. However, with the REMS scan I had last March, I have been told by Dr Nick Birch who runs the OsteoScan clinic, that my bone strength is good and bone strength should be taken into account as well as bone density, but a DEXA scanner doesn’t always have the facility to check your bone strength, which the REMS ultrasound kit has built in. I wanted to try HRT as an alternative to Bisphosphonates and as I was just over 10 years post menopause, I was started on half a patch (25mcg) of Oestrogen and worked my way up to the full 50mcg patch about a year later, and 100mg of Progesterone. I can’t say that my back and neck problems have disappeared at all and unfortunately I am limited to what exercise I can do as yoga, the gym and to a certain extent walking too far exacerbates my joint problems, so I just do what I can and eat as healthy as possible, It’s great that you are still working and get delicious fresh food from the allotment and I’m sure your grandchildren will keep you busy too. I do hope the medication will help you with your fractures as it must be so debilitating for you.
