Hi, I have been referred to a Rheumatologist to discuss the yearly injections because I am unable to take the oral medication. I have been offered an appointment in May 2025. Has anyone else had to wait a lengthy time? In the meantime I am taking a high dose of VitD & Calcium.

Rheumatologist Appointment
Rheumatology appointments are at least that wait time in my area on NHS
Hi. I was also referred to rheumatology due to not being able to tolerate oral medication. I had a wait of 18 months. I was told that my Hospital didn't support the Fracture prevention Service which seems to have been the case throughout the Country. I tried all avenues such as contacting MP, getting GP to try to speed up but nothing seemed to make any difference. During the wait I did feel pressured by my GP that if I was so worried about my osteoporosis worsening during that I should take oral medication. However I chose not do this as couldn't face more side effects of this. Once seen by Consultant Rheumatologist I was prescribed Romosozumab and am now 5 months into this. I was due to have 3 month review (Oct 2024) with Rheumatology but once again I am waiting for this and despite chasing am still waiting . All I can say is thank goodness for this forum and for the ROS as without this I would feel totally unsupported. I really hope you get seen soon and wish you all the best with your journey
I've been told that it's important to take vitamin K2 if you are taking calcium as it helps stop calcification of arteries. Plus magnesium.
Hi RalphyDog, I was referred to Rheumatology in November. My appointment is 24 September 2025! I have very severe osteoporosis and several fractures. I'd settle for May.
