I am 74 and just started with HRT in the hope they will help my bones in the future. Not a quick fix but worth a try for me. Good luck .

Well done for getting your GP to agree. I am 73 and just about to have a go at persuading my docs that HRT is the way forward. Did you use any particular information or were they just open minded enough to listen to you?

As the Osteoporosis Society had advised it was good for me to try. So I just told the doctor that. You need to keep at them. Good luck

It's refreshing to see your post. I've just been disagnosed with osteopenia in my spine)T score-1.5) but my hips are normal. I had some fractures in my pubic bone after a significant fall earlier this year which I aggravated by continuing to exercise as I didn't realise! My doctor wants me to take Alendronic acid which I'm dithering about. HRT sounds more appealing but I'm 68 and forsee a reluctance on the part of my GP.

You are lucky to have a GP to agree to HRT for osteoporosis ,last GP I saw refused saying HRT is for menopause only. I am 73 and decided to self medicate using Estriol cream ,hopefully it will do some good.

My GP (womens health specialist) said oestrogen is not needed for treatment of osteoporosis. I get annual infusion of zelodranate. However, I recently started transadermol oestrogen gel as I have no ovaries and the pessaries were no longer enough. I'm 68. I take soya isoflavins for bone health, high dose vit D (3000iu) and vitK. I've been prescribed calcium in the form of calcium carbonate but I've just stopped them this week due to reading about increased risk of CHD and breast cancer - calcium can be stored in breast tissue. I'm researching other forms of calcium- algae, but concerned about thyroid medication. I no longer have functional thyroid.

Lucky people who can take HRT. I've had an estrogen breast cancer so can't take it. Never did due to late menopause and no symptoms.
