Just wondered if anyone had had acid reflux/heartburn with the zoledrolic acid infusion?

Zoledrolic acid
Yes..dreadful reflux ..aweful
I took some milk of magnesia for my bowels and I think the peppermint oil set it off. Now taking a ppi but i feel that is making me more bloated so might stick with the liquid anti acid.
Did the reflux and heartburn go away?
Unfortunately i still have it..But your may come right..I have an extremely sensitive system due to other medical issues. Good luck 🤗
I have had it before the infusion. So not all things are directly linked to it I suppose. I'm just waiting for the effects to wear off. I know that other peoples issues have improved in time after the infusion
It’s an infusion not an oral medication so it won’t cause acid reflux or heartburn.
It’s often give as an alternative to tablets, for those who have gastric issues.
I feel it has set my gastric issues off because before I had it I was ok
I have gastric issues that I didn’t have before, but that’s due to spinal fractures and loss of height, resulting in squished tummy etc, not the infusion.
I have the Zolendronic infusion because of the gastric issues, because it bypasses the stomach.
The tablets however, are know to have gastric side effects.
No, I had my first infusion last November and apart from a day or so feeling like I might have flu coming on (which I read is pretty normal especially for first infusions so I planned my diary just in case) I had no other side effects. I have my second infusion next week and I’ll make sure I drink plenty of water before, during and for the couple of days after. I had a blood test (P1NP) and consultant review late summer and he told me my bones had a good response to the infusion so I might get away with 3 instead of the 6 he thought my bones might need. My mother used to have the Alendronic acid tablets and ended up with gastric problems, she’s now on Denusomab injection twice a year probably forever (has had 9 so far and age 92).
Oh my..That's so sad 😞
I know, the problem with Denusomab is that if it’s stopped there’s a very high risk of ‘rebound’ fractures, so the person has to go onto Alendronic Acid tablets again (which we’ve discovered the hard way that mum can’t tolerate). She has already had spinal and rib fractures, is very bent so her digestion is poor. I’m doing my best to avoid getting into a pickle, I had osteopenia diagnosed from private DXAs about 30 years ago plus NHS 12 years ago (but was on HRT at that time which was protective). I was also taking calcium & Vit D, eating dairy daily, exercising at gym, Pilates, tap dancing (all impact). I came off HRT in 2018 (though back on it now) and got diagnosed with osteoporosis in 2021, purely because the GP I consulted to go back on HRT in 2020 also referred me for a DXA (15 month wait). I’m so grateful to her. Then it took almost 2 years to try all the different Alendronic Acid tablets (gave me stomach pain) and an initially mishandled referral to consultant plus all the waiting, to actually start treatment.
My mother developed terrible acid reflux after using it for about 3 years. That was in her 70's. Today she is 92 and has it as bad as ever. She has several meds she has used over the decades and her doctor switched her to infusions due to her reflux. Interestingly, although she has taken the OP meds since her 70's and followed all the protocol for said meds, she began fracturing at her mid 80's, developed a severe hump and lost 6 inches of height and continues to fracture to this day. It's been a very dismal outcome with the meds. I also developed OP at age 59, do not take meds and have not lost height or fractured either. I'm 70 and hoping that I do not fracture and end up like my mom. I eat well, hike daily, do pilates, yoga and lift weights. Good luck with your meds and perhaps they will switch you to an infusion which often, they say, decreases the problem with reflux. Unfortunately for my mom, it didn't.
Thanks for your reply. I had the infusion because I was concerned about my bones. I am just waiting for the effects to calm down. Did your mum have 3 infusions?
She is having her second infusion this month. She was suppose to do it last year but had heart valve surgery and put off the infusion until now. BTW she also did not have any side effects from the infusion except feeling like she had the flu after the infusion. However, as time went by, within months, her reflux got much worse.
Also did your mum have acid reflux before the medication?
No, but it's a common side effect according to others and what her doctor told her. Now she's on two different meds to help with her reflux. That's the thing with these OP meds, they can bring on other new health issues that require treatment/meds.
Alendronic Acid for me. The reflux is not good. Have to change what I eat too. Absolutely no spicy food, wine, pastry, bread etc. However I have lost weight!
Her doctor said it was a combination of her loss in height, hump and infusion. I guess a perfect storm for it since that all affects the body's digestive process.
Yes it is a very difficult situation
