I'm trying to find a supplement to help increase my bone density (diagnosed with osteopenia).

I found one called Bone Restore by Life Extension.

Here are the ingredients> what do you think? thanks!

Personally I wouldn't take a supplement with calcium in it unless it was impossible to get enough through diet. The Vitamin D content is 1000iu, which is a good basic level but isn't sufficient for many of us. Magnesium and K2 are at recommended levels, but magnesium oxide may not be the best form of it - many suggest magnesium glycinate or magnesium lactate. One of the problems with buying a multi supplement is that if you have an adverse side effects, you won't know which of the ingredients is causing it.

What about “Remag” (magnesium chloride)?

I've only heard glycinate and lactate specifically recommended.

I would use something like Osteoguard Ultra from Natures Best but supplement with 1000iu vit D. It is quite an undertaking to get 1200mg of calcium from diet alone but you could take 1-3 tablets to make up any shortfall osteoporosis.foundation/pat...

I have osteopenia and was given calcichewD3 tablets but they kept giving me diarrhea. I now take 500iu witamin D with a seaweed calcium. My GP is happy with this change. Heres the link of what I take. amzn.eu/d/dfdkWDo

I personally wouldn't take what you have posted as for instance vitamin K isn't good if you have blood problems and are on blood thinners etc I was told this by the British heart Foundation. Too much of certain vitamins can cause havoc with your health.

I also take this same seaweed supplement when I fall short of calcium from my diet. The calcium carbonate supplied by my GP constipates me. Have no problems with the seaweed one.

They also have their own website with lots of bone health supplements there.

It's K2 *MK7* which should be taken along with D3 and whatever calcium. K2 helps get it to the bones.

I heard that the calcium seaweed component is just another take on calcium carbonate

VitK only affects those on Wafarin. Modern anticoagulants are not affected by VitK which is essential for good health. I agree that you do need to know what you are doing and take advice from a Nutritionist or Lifestyle Doctor. I’ve just had a full work up and although my VitD is top end of range, I need to take about 1000iu to keep it there and always take with K2, otherwise not well absorbed.

I can’t take oral Magnesium or Calcium so rely on diet so interested in your link, thanks for posting.

My Osteoporosis Consultant told me best supplements to take are Vitamin D3 1000 iu and Turmeric 600mg which also contain ginger or black pepper. One each day. Take them as individual tablets and not part of a mixed Vitamin. I have taken them for 3 years and with no side effects.

Don’t know what it does for osteoporosis but my husband swears by it for his joints. I’ve tried it but for s9me rras9n it gives me heartburn.

I always think a multi-supplement could be a waste of money. Eg boron: yes, a deficiency may be linked with lower bone density but as it's so plentiful in plant foods I can't see the point of paying for a supplement. Personally I would do some research to find out whether you are short of any of these ingredients in your diet and focus on the ones you don't get enough of.

Hi, I have full on Osteoporosis. I read a very interesting article on how probiotics also help. Please don't take calcium as carbonate find lots in Sardines, Cheese, tinned salmon with bones, Oranges and kale etc., and take K2 as this will get your body to put the calcium in the bones and not the arteries is what I've read.

Me too. Take K2 and 3000 mg D3. Bloodwork revealed this us my optimal amount. Osteo Specialist said to stick with it.

Hi Missus835,

Just to clear up any possible confusion for others reading along, it sounds like you meant 3000 IU of D3 rather than 3000 mg, as that would be an unsafe amount. Hope that makes sense and thank you so much for sharing your experience here 😊

Take care,

Lulu
