more than medication

I was lucky enough to have a diagnosis of osteoporosis before I broke anything. I started taking alendronic acid, But I spent the next few months terrified that every pain meant a fracture.

So I started exercising with ROS excercises, and with a personal trainer who specialises in over 55s. 3 years on I’m fitter than I was 20 years ago.. and much more confident in my body.

What lovely news. I had several vertebral fractures before was diagnosed, but learned to use Nordic walking poles as a good way to exercise and support my back. I have done lots of beautiful walks that I wouldn't have done otherwise Happy Birthday

Always nice to hear good news. My Dr is waiting for my CTX to go up for Reclast as it was only 89 after 1 Prolia. I too worry about fractures so I’m walking every day. I can’t do any exercise using my arms because I need total shoulder surgery on both and they hurt so much. My left arm is almost unusable. My plan is to get my Reclast then have my shoulders done.

Have you asked your surgeon about taking Reclast? My neurosurgeon said do not take any "bisphosphate" medication before surgeries needing to fuse/heal bone. I have had 4 fusions in spine, and 10 kyphoplasties...well, 4 have been repaired more than twice now. He tells me they prevent healing correctly, and it can take a very long time if it fuses. Since I have 6 discs that are failing now, I can't afford to mess up and take these things. I have another six months on Tymlos, then Endo is pressuring me to pick a OP drug to "lock in gains"...told her I'm taking strontium now and that will have to do. I trust the neurosurgeon over her...she says bone marker labs are never done in the "real world"...I've asked her to order them twice now!

I’m waiting to get Reclast first then get my shoulders done. I have to get Reclast to relay off of 1 Prolia. My CTX went from 89 to 125. As soon as it gets over 150 I will take Reclast.

What I'm trying to say...it could be dangerous to take more bisphosphate drugs...Reclast...ask your surgeon who performs the shoulder repair/replacement. Many folks don't know that those drugs stop fusions, healing post surgery. It's a risk for surgery. I realize it's a huge risk to take Prolia, and maybe it's already put you at risk for surgery.

I never had a Bisphosphonate yet. This will be the first time.
