And now I've broken my foot! 😱

Just a moan if I may? Woke up 3 am a week ago to find I could not stand on my right foot atall, cannot bear any weight on it, total agony! X ( osteo) said probably plantar fasciitis but it was so bad it was obviously a break, presume spontaneous fracture due to OP. So I hobble about on 2 sticks, groaning, pain killers gave me gut rot plus already had bad nausea for weeks so up Omeprazole to 2 day. Did RICE except for compression as too painful, ibuleve etc. 😖

Fastest shower ever first time, more a hose down.Had to stop walking on ball of foot and toes as middle one broke as well, am ignoring him. Also a very painful?gland has come up above calf on same leg, been bitten on throat by monster beast, also on thumb and chin so look like the wicked witch with wart. 😁 My feet were the only things that worked, well mostly, now they've let me down too.🤯

Plopped off with all of it. ☹️ Still, improving slowly and I know there's many worse off so hugs to them, I must try self hugging... 🤔

Today,they said rain, so I've decided it's a duvet day, I deserve it! Osteoporosis..just keeps on giving..keep 😃

Yes it's hard but one has to think positively and not let Osteoporosis win. Good luck, I feel for you.

Thank you for words of wisdom. I am a fighter of ailments by nature. No duvet day today...up and moving!

Sounds very painful and inconvenient but should it not be in plaster or in a boot for a while?

Thanks but ...No point going to hospital atall! The journey, car, wheelchair, wait etc would cause far more pain inc. probably another # vertebra. Couldn't stand the pressure on foot either, am doing all that they would advise, at home. 😕

Your calf “gland”….is the area hot, swollen, tender? I realise your OP history would suggest another spontaneous fracture, however not being able to put weight on ball of foot plus the issue in your calf might suggest a DVT. So sorry this has happened to you…I can feel the ‘gritted teeth’ in your post! Please take care.

Yep, did think gland could be blood clot, it's gone down a bit today, been massaging around it. Had dvt scare in other leg years ago which left it bigger than tother. Falling to bits, not even gracefully and it's not even funny though my humour has returned coz I'm not dead yet, so that's something. Also walking getting easier if only for minutes. Now if I could just get rid of this creeping itchy swelling in my neck... 😬

How long have you been taking Osteoporosis meds?

I only take Adcal D3, refused AA and Prolia due to side effects.

Hi Fraid. I broke my foot a few years ago now. Spontaneously. I went to the Dr because I was obviously in pain. She said well I don’t think you’ve broken it. I came away with a precription for some cream to put on it which took the skin off my foot. I went back a couple of weeks after telling her it still hurt. She said I’ll send you for an X-ray but I still don’t think it’s broken. By now I’d had it four or five weeks. I got a phone call the next morning quite early. I’m afraid your foot is broken. So then I waited for a letter to see a consultant and he gave me a shoe thing he wanted me to wear for a couple of weeks. I wore it a few times but not much. It was nearly healed any way. I walked on my foot all that time though not knowing it was broken. It’s all healed now and I don’t get any trouble with it.

Thanks for that, glad you okaynow footwise. I didn't phone doc then but think I might as the gland nr my calf now gone down mostly ( ice pax, massage around it and Ibuleve) but a much bigger, hotter more painful one now on inside thigh same leg?? Presume gland though don't know what they can do or even if I'll get a phone appt. 🤔

Good luck with getting an appointment. I don’t get up until nine in the morning because I’ve got a cat that goes out as soon as he knows I’m going to bed. So I end up going to bed about twelve and waiting for him to come back around one. The surgery expect you to be able to ring at 8.30 to be able to get in. If you ring later they are all booked.

Phoned and got a helpful receptionist, told doc would phone me 2.30+, he phoned shortly after I ended my call. Very confuddled but said would try send someone out. I wait. Last time I waited for 8 months for blood test which never happened. Never got my Covid as told endlessly was on the list then had run out. So not holding my breath! 🤷‍♀️

Just an update - think maybe DVT after I looked it up and pic showed exactly what my thigh bulge is like! Though mine not as red. Also I didn't know you could get DVT in foot, thought broken but can walk better after just 2 weeks so maybe it all started there, went up to my calf ( which lump all but disappeared now) to thigh? Dunno. 🤔 Nurse never mentioned DVT though did want me go to hosp, nope! Another 11 hours waiting to be sent home with painkillers I had in my bag, even when taken in by ambulance several times and had 2 days of tests looking for clots, none, then I passed a kidney stone! Dummies... I wish they'd listen when patient tells exactly where pain is, inc yelling 'it's my back' they said kidney, ovary then found I had 6 # vertebrae! No faith here. 😏

so sorry for all your pain Fraid. As someone said, Osteoporosis is the gift that keeps on giving! I had broken hand, broken hip and, saving the best til last, compression fractures in my spine. Trying to just keep on with things but life gets to be a bit of an ordeal at times. Wishing you better times ahead. Best of luck with everything.
