In January I developed pain in my left mid foot it started out of the blue and mild at first over a few weeks it became unbearable and really difficult to walk on it. Had x-rays and the consultant said I had a Tarsal Coalition. I then had an MRI and this showed bone marrow Oedema in several places and also a cyst in the navicular. Over the coming months my right foot began to feel painful and swell especially after being at work. I have seen trauma and orthopaedic consultant every month since January had several x-rays he decided to put me in a plaster cast for 6 wks as he thought I had stress fractures. After the plaster cast came off it took a long time using crutches to get around. I had 4 months off work. I then had a dexa scan and was told I have Osteoporosis. My score -3 spine . I have had vascular tests and recently seen a Rheumatologist who has diagnosed Transient Regional Osteoporosis of the foot. This I am told that will improve with time. I have been given a 2 week high vitamin D and then a maintenance dose. And then going to have an infusion of Zoledronate. I was advised to rest but I feel moving is surely better? So I went back to work for 2 shifts and was in agony again. Any advice welcome. Nearly 12 months of daily pain. I'm 52

hi! I had a spontaneous fracture to my foot. I went to the Dr after a couple of weeks. She said she didn’t think it was broken so I carried on walking on it.I went back to the Dr and she still didn’t think it was broken. I had an X-ray and I had a phone call next day. Your foot is broken. By the time I went back to the consultant it was about five weeks after I did it.
I have a very similar condition in my left foot, according to MRI scans and xrays. My foot also changes colour, looks smaller at times and my toenails look awful, and fall off. I’ve had the excruciating pain now for about nine years and I’ve seen several rheumatologists, and none had any solution apart from pain control. Possibly psoriatic arthritis, CPDD or recently the rheumatologist suggested I may have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Walking becomes absolutely agonising after about half a mile, also standing on it for long, but I still do it, because, overall, walking seems to help.
It can feel so frustrating to get an actual diagnosis. It took ten months for me. Hope things improve for you soon. I agree to keep as mobile as possible. I was put in a plaster cast for 6 weeks and this was not helpful in the long run, I lost strength in the calf muscle and took a while to get walking.
