Hats off to the British for doing these kinds of studies.

Thank you for that - I’m off to stock up on dried plums - no harm in trying.

What strange foods to test and a very small number of women used. Interesting though.

I’ve known about prunes for quite a while so I can see why they decided to investigate them - I just didn’t know how helpful they were and you are correct - it’s a small group for the test but it is encouraging and for me the fact that any research is being carried out by anyone other than drug companies is very encouraging.

The researchers are based in the USA. Good to see that somebody is doing research on osteoporosis. About time there were alternatives to bisphosphonates!

Thank you for this…. I shall read it with great interest, since I have been having prunes (almost) every day since my diagnosis.

Take care,

Fran 😉

Great study. I do consume prunes but not 9-10/day... have to gradually work up!

I have been eating 5 or 6 prunes a day for the last year and a half after reading an old study out of Australia. I also take a K2 supplement. I went from Osteoporosis to Osteopenia in the first 10 months. I even take them with me when I travel. 100 gms is a lot of prunes. This study even commented that it is hard to keep up with 100 gms a day. psu.edu/news/health-and-hum...

I eat 6 prunes a day based on this study? Do you mind sharing the dosage you take of vitamin K2?

I eat 5-6 prunes at breakfast and take 100 mcg of Vitamin K2 MK-7 at lunch. I take no prescription drugs. I eat a Paleo diet with an emphasis on vegetables. I use Avocado oil sparingly. Brush it on my potatoes. 1 Tablespoon in a bottle of my homemade dressing. I use vegetable broth to saute. I eat all meats but mostly fish and chicken. No dairy and no grains except some white rice occasionally because it is used in most gluten free flours . I am a firm believer that your nutrition should be tailored to your health needs and change as you age.

I have been consuming 4-5 with D3 and K2. I also went from OP to Osteopenia after about the same timeframe. I take them with me as well... After this study and others, I will be trying to increase a bit slowly.
