A warning to all about a PM.

I'm really shocked that I received a Private Message from someone this morning calling herself Donna Ono and saying that 'she 'only had 2 weeks to live and she wants to start an orphanage because 'she 'and her dead husband couldn't have children and ' she ' wanted to name me as a Trustee. This would have involved giving my Bank details etc.! How stupid do these scammer's think we are?! To pick on anybody is bad enough but to target sick and vulnerable people who are in pain is so disgusting it takes my breath away. I have reported it but wanted to warn you all. PLEASE don't get taken in by these vile scammer's!Thinking of you all. Please take care. I will write more later.

Best wishes to all 💖🧚‍♀️🐿 xxx Danni

Hi Danni54,

That sounds really stressful, we’re sorry you’ve experienced that - you definitely did the right thing in reporting to HealthUnlocked. Thank you for kindly looking out for others in this community, we really encourage anyone who receives message they’re uncomfortable with to report them as soon as possible. As you note, it’s important to not share any personal details, even in private messages, and we have more information about online safety in our community guidelines: healthunlocked.com/boneheal...

We hope the rest of your day is kind to you.

All the best,

Lulu

If you have not already done so, it is worth reporting this to Action Fraud. They are very helpful and the more reports they have the greater the chance of stopping these people.

Thank you. I will do that. Scammer's should try getting a job ! Penalties need to be harsh for their revolting behaviour!

It is scary and I don't do any Social Media in case I get hacked. A very good friend of mine was scammed a few year's ago out of £1200 and she was terminally ill with cancer and on her own . Luckily I managed to get it back for her from the Bank but because she was so ill she was scammed again 4 weeks before she died and that £1600 went into the ether ! I detest scammers and they should be ashamed of themselves! Grrrr! Stay safe please!

Thank you Danni54. Best check that responses are from people who are registered with healthunloed before responding to any content. Good job you realised before responding.

I just read your bio and isn't it rotten not being able to garden the way we used to ?! If I get any help or advice from the Orthopaedic Consultant on Wednesday I will let you know. My spine is , also, curving but the pain from the fracture's and the effect on my leg's is overwhelmingly bad now. I Googled the Consultant that I'm due to see and he seems to have a good reputation so ..... we will see! Take care.

Thank you for the advice and do you know I hadn't even thought of checking registration! I just read the Private Message and my hackles went up! It was such an obvious scam and where I would help anybody, asking for bank details etc. is just sick ! Why are some people sooo cruel ? I don't understand and I don't understand why things have changed so much and why there is less compassion. Then there are the rest of the people on the Forum's who are so wonderful and I'm so grateful for the help and support that I have been given. Checking registration is a good idea though. Thanks again. Take care and very best wishes.

scammers are cut from the same cloth as trolls! Zero feeling for others. My brother was scammed even though he told them he was blind …the old ‘we are from the fraud office ‘ trick. He even apologised that he couldn’t remember all the PIN numbers for them!! He called me and told me how lovely they were but I called the police who were genuinely lovely , went round, stopped his cards and he got the few thousands they managed to get within minutes back. Yesterday a woman called to talk about my BT account. I said that’s funny I don’t have one and the line went dead! Just hope as I get older I have my wits about me!

That's horrible! Your poor brother and thank goodness he called you and the Police managed to get his money back. Scammer's are vile and my friend who was scammed twice was so lovely and trusting but terminally ill and so vulnerable. I don't answer the home phone any more because every day I get phone calls from scammers despite having TP . It's so sad that there is so much lack of trust these days but I'm afraid that there are very few people who I trust these days. I hope that your brother was never taken in again. Take care.

Sounds like one good reason to lock your posts to the Community, instead of leaving it open for all to see. There are still too many members who do it, but anyone can get caught out!

Cheers, Midori

Otoh I was in former times advised by HU that in general open posts are preferred so that they can be more readily found by people seeking help online. I use both methods, closed for things that are definitely only of interest to current members of the community being addressed, otherwise open. So far have not had reason to regret my choices but you never know....

Locking your post to a community means it won't be seen outside the Community. I have been with Health Unlocked for 12 years (started with the Fibromyalgia boards and branched out to others).

Quite a lot of us are with several Communities, but us older ones are wary as some folk come to troll and others to spam, which is why we who have been here some time prefer to lock them. Some of us old ones won't answer an unlocked post.

Cheers, Midori

Can't quite match you but I think I go back to 2015 and have, touch wood, never had a problem. Anything I wouldn't want the world to see I'm not likely to post here anyway.

Hi again. Thanks for the advice. Stupid question but how do I lock my post ? The scammer Private Messaged me so what do I do to stop attempted scams ? I'm not , usually, this dense !

I'm not very good at modern computers, I got lost at windows XP!

When you make a post at the bottom there is a box which asks which audience you want ti to show to, There is a choice of Everybody or Community only. To need to mark it Community only.

Cheers, Midori

Thank you for that. Shows how observant I am ! Too many painkiller's...makes my brain fuzzy !Yikes ! A giant spider landed on the bed , I screamed but husband didn't hear me ! Now I can't find it ! I hate to admit that I'm phobic but I am ! I would never kill one but having had giant ones out in India that hopped I just can't cope with them !! I don't sleep well at the best of times so tonight will be fun !! Not !

Sorry! Distracted! Will start doing private!
