10th spinal fracture….

I had my 10th spinal fracture just before Christmas. This was probably the worst as it affected the sciatic nerve in both buttocks. The pain from the fracture was excruciating made worse from the pain from the sciatic nerves.

Long story short. Had a MRI at A and E and the spinal surgeon told me the spinal fracture was L1 but my osteoporosis was so severe that any kind of surgery wasn’t possible. He was so kind and said he would love to tell me he could fix me.

I now have the results from that MRI and this is what some of it says

MRI Spine Lumbar and Sacral :

Compared to the previous scan dated 29.05.22, there is evidence of T1w hypointense and T2w/STIR hyperintense lesion at L1 vertebral body, concurrent to decrease in vertebral body height, suspicious in first hypothesis for acute fractures (underlying lesion cannot be ruled out).

Is there anyone with medical knowledge that can explain what this might mean?

I’m afraid I can’t help. I’m awaiting my MRI results, now wondering whether I’ll be able to understand them! I expect someone more knowledgeable will answer soon 😊

I’m so sorry you have this. I’ve had seven spinal fractures and I can’t do much any more. I can’t do my housework although I do put my washing in and dry it. I can’t walk far. I know the pain you have. Are you taking anything for the pain. I had painkillers in hospital but don’t take anything any more. I’m wondering if I should. Maybe it will help me do more.

Feel for you. You must be able to get a follow up consult to explain all of this to you and make sure you have the right pain meds etc. 🤞

Would be nice if they wrote it for us common folks to understand! It indicates a fracture. The crazy language means "something is brighter" or "something is denser" in the viewing, not saying what it could be, but indicating something is not what is normally expected. Your doc said you have a fracture, many of them, but your OP is severe, no too much risk for kypho, correct? If something else was looming in there, he'd have the responsibility for additional testing to diagnosis. I have 10 fractures as well...8 have had kypho, first one was T7, then T6 and cascaded all the way down. T9 has re-fractured, my second re-fracture, and L3 is fractured, but not yet kypho or any other surgery. I'm trying to heal, but I have autoimmune conditions and rarely heal. The pain is really rough, I'm so sorry you have to go through this too! If the fractures are bad, not healing, not able to handle kypho, they can go in and repair it with screws, or fuse it all. I have 4 fusions, 8 more bad discs...but the fusions aren't nearly as painful as the fractures.
