I suppose I'm looking for stories of hope 🫶 Feeling overwhelmed with everything I read telling me I'm at hugely increased risk for further vertebral fractures (& a hip fracture) after compression fracture of T6 & T7 😢Has anyone had vertebral fractures in the past but been doing good since with no further fractures since initial ones?

Was your first vertebral fracture your last vertebral fracture?
Afraid I have had further fractures but pain now receding so feel much better about it all. It's so easy to worry about what may happen but noone could know. I would just say take care of yourself, don't go doing acrobatics and try enjoy Xmas. Hopefully next year will be an easier one for us all! Best wishes and Merry Xmas and Happy New Year! 🤗🧑🎄
I'm not really sure. T12 was the first found but in the second followup x-ray they found T8. I don't have the images but it seems that earlier X-rays did not cover that region. Was T8 newer than T12? Same time? Did it precede the incident that caused T12? I have no idea. The radiology report just says "indeterminate age".
That said, all this went down in 2019 and have had no vertebral fractures since then. I fractured five ribs in a second incident in 2020 but the spine seemed not to suffer.
I had a T9 compression fracture in October 2022. No idea how it happened. I get pain still sometimes but just watch what I do. So far no more have occured. But who knows. 🤞 Merry Christmas. X
Hi I hope I can give you some hope. I had a compression wedge fracture at T12 in April 2020. My spinal t score is -5! I have had 2 year course of Teriparatide and 1 infusion of Zolendronic acid. So far I haven’t suffered any further fractures that I’m aware of. I’m not saying I’m pain free all of the time and life isn’t without challenges since my fracture but I consider myself fortunate not to have fractured again. I do try and walk as much as I can and do a little exercise routine several times a week. I have enough calcium in my diet not to need supplement but do take vitamin D3 as recommended by my consultant.
I wish you the very best and hopefully you can enjoy Christmas.
So sorry. I didn't know I had the first two compression fractures, which were at, L1 L2. July 2023. The pain took me to the ER where a CT scan revealed them. I then had two vertebroplasties (where they inject cement into the vertebrae to rebuild and strengthen them). Then the vertebrae on either side of the plasties fractured. Fast forward to April of this year where the 10th fracture occurred. Fortunately, none since but the pain persists. I had a Zoledronic Acid infusion in October 2023 and will get one annually for at least 3 years. I take 3000 units of Vitamin D3 daily, Vitamin K2 and calcium thru my diet. It's very easy to fracture. Be careful how you turn, no reaching and try not to bend to floor. Do weight bearing exercise if you're able, like walking. Get yourself a grabbing device. I also have PMR, fibromyalgia and now bursitis. Quite a pain cocktail. Wish I could bring better news on Christmas day. It is mostly caused from the steroids I've been on since Jan. 2022. In my case none of these are hereditary. They think the PMR began with the first Covid vaxes in May 2021. 🌷🫂
Wow. PMS - Was that Astra Zeneca? I know of many who found arthritis worsened after it, and my husband who has a lot of arthritis was bed bound after it. AZ is no longer available of course.
My first fracture was at T7, then T6 and T8...then T9-T12 and L1. Now, I've been a year since those happen, and have held steady. I am checked via MRI every three months. Don't be hopeless...but be patient for healing.
I fractured several nearly 5 years ago and had just got back to being almost normal when I just turned to grab my bag off the backseat of the car, something I've done countless times before and fractured 2 more and recrunched T12, lost 2 inches in heightThe pain has been severe, did it in May, I'd had x-rays/scans when I did it and more recently because of the level of pain, they've made no attempt whatsoever to heal
The surgeon had suggested verteoplasty but the risk was too high, the way they're fractured the cement could leak into the spinal cord.
I had a load of injections that are different to previous ones and have helped enough so that I can lie down without pain, it's such bliss.
I can do most things in small bursts, it's learning to stop before the pain gets too bad.
I'm on Oxycodone and Duloxetine and it's been a game changer for me, so much so that we were able to travel to our daughter and son in law for Christmas, it was such a treat.
Standard morphine and the morphine patches didn't do anything but Oxycodone and paracetamol in-between and also Oxyact when I need a boost have really helped me.
See if you can get referred to the pain clinic, they're wonderful and really help.
The consultant told me to try not to live in fear, it's hard not to!!
Thinking of you, there's a lot of us here in the same boat xx
