hi , I have had Osteoporosis for 12 years, and been taking Vitamin D supplements I over the past year have been diagnosed with lower mandible of the jaw bone , I had some bone removed last October all seemd to go well , , but now I think it's spreading again in my lower jaw , it's very inflamed and painful , luckily I have a post op appointment end of this week, my question is any one else suffering from jaw bone osteoporosis?

What caused the need to remove some bone from your jawbone? (The lower mandible is the lower jawbone so isn't a diagnosis.). Are you taking Alendronic Acid or a similar osteoporosis medication?

Yes I was taking Alendronic acid but was advised to stop , I had the dead bone removed from my lower jaw .

Did they say the AA probably caused the problem? Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a known rare side effect of bisphosphonates and Prolia.

yes , it was my dentist who raised it first , then referred me to oral surgeon and I was then asked to stop taking Alondrinic Acid

So are you asking whether anyone else has suffered from osteonecrosis of the jaw? If so, you might find it helpful to edit your original post, change osteoporosis to osteonecrosis.

Hello Trevor, I am so sorry that you have this problem with your jaw, It must be very painful and difficult to eat, I have a jaw problem (not osteonecrosis) but it makes me afraid to to Alendronic Acid. How long did you take the medication for? and wht are they going to do for you now.?

Thanks Trevor, That is quite a long time, at least any benifit you have from taking them will still be there. It was time to stop anyway. All the best with your Jaw bone surgery.

Sorry to hear that you needed surgery. Good that you have follow up appointment. I don't have this but found some information on it from the Cleveland Clinic including questions you might want to ask your doctor - my.clevelandclinic.org/heal....

All good wishes for going forward.
