I had a hip replacement 3 years ago which according to my consultant was successful. Since then I have experienced pain in my lower back above the buttocks on that side.I have seen my consultant twice since and he just says the hip replacement was fine. I often have to stop and sit down whilst out walking for it to ease and I cannot stand still for very long before it starts up.
Recently I have also started to get pain when lying on the operated side, thus disturbing my sleep and am also getting pain at the top of my thigh. I just take ibuprofen which helps. I have tried using heat rubs but they don’t help. I never had this pain even pre hip replacement.

Hi, when I had my hip replacement, a few years later I started getting pain in the buttock and then I couldn’t lie on that side. I had a trochanteric bursitis. I had ultrasound to confirm it, it does still flare up occasionally and when it does I’ve had a steroid injection in it and that sorts it. Could be this? Hope you get it sorted.
Hi! My bones are supposedly healed but I still get pain after five years. My Husband had knee replacements and he could never stand for long after. He wasn’t in so much pain walking but he couldn’t stand still.
However it shouldn’t hurt more. Have they done a scan to see if anything is going on? It may be worth asking for one. Maybe even ask for a Dexa scan.
You can get DEXA scans in the U.K. but I think you need an MRI if you want to know what’s going on in your hip. Most likely you’d need to find somewhere privately for that though. I saw a physiotherapist a couple of years ago who referred me ( I was in a lot of pain - my previous doctor who didn’t know me at all said that ‘at your age it is probably a touch of osteoarthritis’) it turned out to be a fractured sacrum.
Could you be needing a revision of your new hip, it’s not all that uncommon.
Sounds like you need to ask to be referred back to your orthopaedic surgeon. The link below is by someone who obviously does them privately but it explains all about it.
Will just have to wait. Going away for 10 weeks relaxation in the sun. Might try to get a physio appointment in the meantime. He diagnosed my initial knee problem when GP came up with nothing.

FOR THE FIRSTTIME I BEGAN EXPERIENCING PAIN. LIKE THE OTHER COMMENTER TO YOUR POST, I WAS ADVISED BYB THE SURGEON WHO DID THE OPERATION TO HAVE A SHOT OFCORTISONE AND THAT WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE.
