I prefer to buy my vitamins separately so I can get the dose I need of each. I get most of my nutrients from diet.

I buy my vitamins separately and also do regular home fingerprick tests to check on how my levels are.

For me the with multi-vitamins is that you may be having too much of a vitamin you don’t particularly need and not enough of something you do need. In my case I get enough dietary calcium that I only take a top up of an marine calcium - the prescribed calcium carbonate upset my IBS whereas I take more than the amount of D3 that is generally in a multivitamin.

Plus often something like B12 may be the cheap cyanocobalamin instead of methylcobalamin which is the good one that you want to take.

which b12,do you take? I thought you can’t absorb. B12, without taking the b complex ?

I’ve just looked back at what I’ve taken in the past and see it’s mostly B complex where the B12 is methylcobalamin- apart from one bottle of Jarrows B12 that I ordered a couple of years ago.

My B12 is always well up in the range - probably because I eat a lot of B12 rich foods. I eat a two egg omelette most days plus oily fish and a lot of chicken, occasional lamb and pork and I eat some beef but not much at all.

I do eat well - quite a bone friendly diet really - loads of green leafy veg, unsalted nuts and seeds too, basically I work my way through the ROS bone friendly foods diet, it’s pretty much all cooked from scratch - although I do love an M&S gluten free quiche - so no additives.

Unfortunately I’ve still got osteoporosis though ☹️

The Royal Osteoporosis Society have a list of calcium containing foods - I like to ‘top up’ during the day with ‘little’ things like nuts, or an orange etc - I’ve had to be a bit careful as I found I was putting weight at one point by overindulging in quiche and pizza.

Hello, because I havnt been able to obtain a blood test appointment at my GP I'm interested in where you obtain a home finger pick test ?

I mostly use Medichecks - I started because I had Graves Disease and found that my doctors only ever tested my T4 and TSH and never vitamins or minerals - which to me wasn’t really enough especially as I was told that should I relapse after I went into remission I would be given radioactive iodine to wipe out my thyroid.

I was not impressed that they would do that when I had never ever had my T3 checked - so through ThyroidUK I was able to find out about home fingerpick tests. Here’s a link to the ThyroidUK page about all of that thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...

Some of the labs are more expensive than others. I buy the thyroid test that tests all the thyroid areas plus vitamins, minerals and inflammation. In the past I’ve used Medichecks and Blue Horizon and If I only want to test my vitamin D I use City Assays which is an NHS lab cityassays.org.uk/
