got 3 spontaneous fractures 2 thoracic t 8 t10 and 1 C5. My bone scan of lumber spine was normal. Lost 4 inches in height huge belly & dowager hump. Plain X-ray cause osteoporosis same mri with nerve impact impaction, GP sure Osteoporosis Can anyone help answer this question Can you have osteoporosis in just parts of spine? Wondering as my fractures are in thoracic & cervical but bone scan done at lumber level. I haviving just found this out should mention I had neck dissection for metastatic melanoma of unknown primary in2018 🙂

I doubt they just did a Dexa scan of part of your back as the machine goes up and down your back. Also, having fractures without osteoporosis seems rare but you have other conditions that may cause the fractures. I think you need an actual authority to answer this as we are not medical doctors and this one is complicated. Someone may relate through personal experience though.
My fracture in my back is at the point where I have -5 Dexa scan result.
You can’t guess an osteoporosis result but it can also be not correct for various reasons. If you are small for example with small bones you can’t be the same as a big boned person or measured the same way.

DEXA machines scan L1-L4 vertebrae, which is the lower back. I don't know why they go up and down the whole back, but everyone gets results just for those 4 vertebrae.
So sorry you have to go through all of this.
