I’m wondering about stem cell therapy for osteoporosis rather than any of the drugs.

Has anyone else been researching this?

It’s in a quite a few countries.

Thoughts?

Hi. I did some research a few years ago on stem therapy and found nothing in the UK. . Thank you for posting your question. I've just found a place in London and Birmingham which do it. I've sent off for an info pack and will be speaking to them when I've read up a bit more and have some idea of the cost. I have a friend who recently had a bone graft on both of her knees instead of knee replacements. Medical breakthroughs are still happening and give us some hope. Anyone else who is interested...I simply googled stem therapy for osteoporosis. Once again, thank you for posting your question. Dido xx

That's very interesting thanks Dido. I haven't been able to find the specific links, so would you be willing to share (maybe start a new post) when you hear back from the centres please?

Hi. I'm not sure how to do that. However the telephone number for info from the UK is 0800 689 1474. There is a premise in Birmingham and London. Sorry can't remember the name, and also for my lack of digital skills.

A while back, I read a little about this being researched but it didn't sound like it was a currently available option. DeannaAlphi, when you find out more, please come back and share with the rest of us. Thank you.

I have emailed a place in Melbourne as I’m in Australia so will know more soon. Spread the word.

Dear MWZ3, this was the most exciting question I’ve read in a long time, so I’ve immediately set out to search the web for more info. The U.S. based trials have not gone much of anywhere but offer hope. Found this site that summarized much of what I read of these studies: ipscell.com/2021/09/boning-...

If others find additional info, hope you’ll continue to post updates.

I have just made an appointment with a specialist in Melbourne to discuss this. Not too long to wait as appointment is next week.

Try sports medicine doctors as they are doing this kind of thing for athletes. They also offer it to others.

I have read that stem cell therapy is used for fractures and it is very costly anywhere between $5 thousand to $50.000 thousand

Where are you? I have an appointment next week so will know more then. I’m in Australia and I don’t have that kind of money and doubt that’s so here.

That's just what I have read about stem cell therapy, it is not widely used and not well known maybe because of the expense or maybe because it's only use is for fractures. I also am in Australia and until now had never heard of stem cell therapy being used for osteoporosis.

Are you near a capital city? Here in Melbourne it’s the sports medicine one I have appointments for. I can use Medicare and I’m about to hit the safety net because I have wet macular and get needles in the eye. They are doing stem cell to replace knee replacements. The doctor I’m seeing helps with bone and arthritis for people who are not sports people. I explained my case and two doctors were recommended there. I chose the one who specifically mentioned this. There are other things that could help as well. First appointment is a chat. Apparently we have to do our own research and figuring it out sadly.

I am also in Melbourne, didn't know such doctors exist here, have read they do stem cell therapy for injuries and knee replacement more or less the same thing. But don't know how it would help osteoporosis keep us informed if the doctors think stem cell therapy maybe a solution to osteoporosis.

Thank you for posting. This is really exciting, and I will research more and ask my doctors here in Chicago. Does stem cell therapy mean that nutrients will be metabolized differently in the future by the body? My doc thought I may have an OH/OH 125 problem, but they can't offer any solutions.

What is OH/OH 125 ?

Hi Lorlei - I posted here because I don't know what my doc meant by having an issue with OH - OH 125. My doc explained it to me in Aug 2021, but I didn't take good notes. I think it means there is a genetic mutation that affects the ability of the calcium in my body to get formed into the bone matrix - hence I have normal calcium levels but very low BMD. My latest T score was -4.4, but I've never broken a bone, no eating issues, no kidney problems, never had any health problems. I lifted weights and played varsity sports through college. One risk factor is early menopause and a lot of stress, on top of hereditary osteoporosis. I also tested negative for multiple melanoma. Does anyone know what my doctor was describing when she talked about an issue with OH - OH 125? How would I test and get treated for that type of condition? Thank you.

Are you sure the doc was not referring to Vit D3?

It also sounds like your bone quality is much better than bone quantity. Really hard to measure quality. I am -3.1 LL bad bike crash this year, no fractures. I hit everything on my right side. My A/C joint has a visible separation.

Hi, I'm not sure...will keep asking re OH/OH 125, but yes, I can only keep eating well, taking supplements, lifting weights, exercise, stress reduction and not worry about my T-score too much. I'm sorry to hear about your bike crash. Ouch. Glad you didn't fracture, and hoping your A/C joint can heal. Take care.

I searched but can't get my head around OH - OH 125 as far as I can tell a genetic disorder?. I recently had my vit D3 and calcium levels tested the D3 is a little low but it always has been, calcium is fine I supplement with both but the D3 is a hard one to raise. I haven't had a Dexa in years because I don't believe it is an accurate measure of bone quality, they are after all measuring our bones against a 30 year old athlete, which is ridicules to me since I have never been a 30 year old athlete but petite there fore small boned to start with.

I don’t know. I’ll know more next week and will relay my findings on here to help others. I’m seeing an expert.
