Necrosis of the knee:

Has anyone had this condition? If so, I would greatly appreciate any advice, as I suspect that I may have this condition.

I don't know anything about it, except what I've just read on the internet. What makes you think you have this condition?

Hi HeronNS, The whole story is too long and drawn out, as it would take me too long to explain the whole story here and now, but I just wondered if anyone else was in the same position. I am worried that I may have this condition and am getting little help from my orthopaedic consultant.

Any chance of getting a referral to a different specialist? Second opinion and all that? Good Luck.

I’ve heard about it but I don’t have it so can’t help you. Sorry! Someone might come along with the condition.

I remember where I heard Osteonecronosis. I’m on Denosumab and I think that’s what they warn you about in the jaw. The drug can cause it. I think it’s degeneration of the bones.

Yes, the bone can collapse and dies. I was surprised to learn that drinking too much alcohol can cause necrosis, also steroids can play a part.

I think lots of things are really bad for us. But we can’t avoid everything.

I'm sorry to hear you are obviously suffering. I presume it's a wound that is not healing. I haven't heard of this in the knee but in the jaw caused by bisphosphonates, generally the infusion. This is when there is a tooth extraction and doesn't heal. If you have any open wound, don't leave it, it needs extensive antibiotics.

I've since been googling and was surprised to see osteocrenosis doesn't just affect the jaw. Please ask your specialist or gp about it rarediseases.org/rare-disea....
