Hi, I posted a while ago about my hiatus hernia/reflux problems. A few days ago we had to cut short our break away and set off home at 1am to get back to our local hospital as I was in so much pain. Doc in emergency dept thought it could be a duodenal ulcer but referred me to the assessment dept who thought it could be my hiatus hernia/reflux problems flaring up. I was retching loads but only bringing bile up. All bloods came back ok. In the end they prescribed famotidine to take as well as the esomeprazole and could take gaviscon too. The pain has gone (still getting the odd twinge) but I'm very wary of what to eat now as scared of it reappearing. This happened Thursday and it's now Saturday and all I've eaten is 6 ginger biscuits, 1slice of dry toast and a ham sandwich. My bowel movements are a bit mucousy but obviously not doing much as not eaten much. I have to take a sample to check for h pylori (arranged before the hospital visit). Anyone had similar episodes?

That sounds horrible Manray. Have they checked out your gall bladder, liver and pancreas. My husband had vaguely similar symptoms earlier in the year - fortunately he had an absolutely massive all over body itch - from the top of his head to the soles of his feet, that a locum GP he eventually spoke to on a Friday night (and who had a bit more sense than his own doctor who suggested it was a reaction to his covid vaccination) suggested could indicate a liver problem. Unfortunately we waited until Monday for the blood tests and sure enough a doctor phoned him back and told him to pack a bag and go straight to hospital where he spent ten days on an IV drip with a massive liver, gall bladder and pancreas infection. He has since altered his diet drastically and 🤞 has been fine since but he’s down for surgery and has been told if it flares up to go straight to A&E.
So if yours starts again or if you don’t get better or start to get itchy I’d go back to A&E
Sorry to hear what a rough time you've been having but just to let you know, PPI's (such as esomeprazole etc.,) can interfere with the test for h.pylori and give a false negative result. It should be stopped about 2 weeks prior to the test. Your GP should be aware of this.😊
I think you are OK with the PPI's for a stool test, its a breath test (UBT Urea breath test) where you have to stop the PPI's.

I've got a hiatus hernia too.........you have my sympathy🤗
Well the test for h pylori came back positive so was prescribed clarythromycin and metronidazole. Almost finished them now but still getting some uncomfortable aches in my upper stomach. May be just the side effects of the meds, I don't know but I'm hoping that it doesn't mean they haven't got rid of the infection. I am due to go to Tenerife on the 20th and don't want it to spoil my holiday. Anyone had similar?
