Good morning, what are your side affects ? I refused AA as a couple of my friends have had issues with it. I asked my rheumy for the Risedronate 35 mg instead....only been taking it for 5 weeks, but so far so good.

Hi thanks for answering, Iv had head ack , on and off. Also have a slight pain under my chest, not on but under if that makes any sense, it’s not all the time. Iv had literally no support of any medical professionals, been on them 3 weeks, not one call of the nurse to ask how I’m getting on, as far as I’m concerned there useless, when you do manage to get hold of anyone they act like your a inconvenience, when it’s their job to help. Thanks for replying

Hi again, so sorry to hear of your plight. Probably unlikely to be the Alendronic Acid though. Do you have Polymyalgia Rheumatica and taking steroids ? which I'm guessing you are, to be taking AA. Or are you taking AA for something else. If you're at all worried, just ask your GP (assuming you're in England) and ask to change to the one I'm taking. Just say it upsets your stomach. Read the leaflet inside the box of AA to see if your side affects are listed. Probably headaches will be on the list. So many are taking this drug with no problems at all.

You could always phone the nurses helpline at the Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS) and have a chat with someone. Calls are free for those in the UK. Tel: 0808 800 0035

Hi Dolliedodge, I had declined AA 2 years ago as concerned re side effects but a dexa scan in Nov 20 showed significant deterioration so decided to give it a go. I’ve had no problems whatsoever, I take it first thing whilst standing up drinking at least 300ml of room temperature water, I shower and dress then have another drink of water . 30mins soon passes and then I eat breakfast and start my day making sure I stay well hydrated. I have only once taken it seated and suffered indigestion.

Good luck

Morning, I too have osteoporosis and as I've said I was given AA, but declined it. So I now take Risedronate 35 mg one a week too. So far no side affects for me. If we have to take steroids we are prescribed Calcium and AA or the one I'm taking to protect our bones.

Have taken it for three years no problems whatsoever. My doc keeps wanting to give me the injection of Prolia but I don't want it

I have been taking it for 8 years with Adcal. I get bone pain sometimes for no reason which paracetamol gets rid of. My hair has gone fine and thin. My second dex scan showed that my bone density has improved, osteoporosis in hips now osteoponeia and osteoporosis in spine improved.
