I've been taking A Acid now for a month and although things started off well I am now so bloated that I can't stand it! Does The Risedronate stuff have the same effect ? Would I be better off trying that one.
Thanks....

Hi superbones, You could ring the helpline and speak to a specialist nurse who would know the answer to this question. Its a free helpline number for people in the UK 0808 800 0035
Are you taking calcium supplements alongside the alendronic acid? If so, it might be the supplements that are causing the bloating. Might be worth experimenting with a different type and see if things improve.
Hello. I could not tolerate Alendronic acid. I now take Vit. 3 and calcium Citrate (500mg)
I do recommend you seek professional advice .
my best wishes
Carmelite , vitamin D needs magnesium for activation and calcium needs magnesium for balance and to prevent calcium from going to soft tissue. A one to one ratio of calcium to magnesium is optimal. Magnesium glycinate is a gentle form to use. Also, look into boron. Boron increases the half-life and bioavailability of vitamin D and can aid in keeping your bones strong in addition to reducing calcium and magnesium loss. Always consult your health care professional before using any supplement.
I started on AdCal and Alendronic Acid. I became very constipated which made me feel bloated (and gave me a hernia - oh joy!) Could that be what is happening? I found it was the AdCal that was making it much worse so stopped that and got my Calcium through my diet. That helped a lot. I also then increased my fibre intake to between 28 and 36g a day and that resolved the problem. If I am low on fibre during the day I have half a tin of lentils in a salad and that brings it up. Also Raspberries are high in fibre and an easy and delicious way of increasing your fibre intake. I am now fine with alendronic acid and have been on it for over two years now. I don't know about risedronate. Good luck - bloating can be so uncomfortable.
Hi, I had problems with AA caused swelling in my legs, I was also told not to have the infusion due to my side affects. I have been on Risedronate (1 weekly tablet) for a year now and seem to be okay, although there are different brands and I now request a certain brand that suits me better. Just make sure you drink plenty of water with the tablet, sit or stand up for at least 30 mins, and no food or other drinks in this time.
Hope this helps 🙏
In 2010, I stopped taking AA after 8 weeks as I was having indigestion and reoccurring duodenal ulcer symptoms.
I saw an NHS rheumatologist who treated OP and She let me have prescription Strontium Ranelate, which I’ve been on, ever since, as it agrees with me.
I’m sorry I cannot answer your specific question, but don’t be afraid to try a recommended alternative drug. If it doesn’t agree with you, stop taking it and try something else. We are all different, so what suites one person, may not suit another.
You are better getting your Ca from your diet if possible.
Dairy is a good source. I buy St. Helens Farm Goat yogurt from Sainsbury’s. A 150 gm portion contains 360 mg of Ca. I eat 30g of mature Cheddar cheese which on average containes 250mg of Ca.
100ml of milk contains 120 mg go Ca. It soon mounts up. I aim for around 1200 mg of Ca per day.
I take D3, usually 2000 IU per day, but get a D3 blood test done, as this will give you a rough guide as to how much to take.
I also take Life Extension Super K.. it contains 100mcg of mk7 and 1000mcg of mk4. Magnesium is important. I take 400mg of chelated Magnesium, which unlike Mg oxide, doesn’t upset my guts.
Lastly you must eat quality Protein, some from animal origin, as the bone framework is composed of collagen, which is made by the body from protein I aim for about 70g of protein a day.
Best wishes
Hi, I've just posted this to someone else too.... I had absolutely terrible reactions to AA and stopped it. After months of deliberation and fear caused by my experience, I plucked up the courage to try Riseondrate. So far I have had 9 pills (weekly) and abosutely no bad reactions thus far
I would like to add ROS are amazing if you need to call them.
