Dental extraction while on AA ?

I finished my Prednisolone tablets thankfully, a month ago (after three years!) but I am on AA, Risedronate tablets, one per week for a year now. Today I learned I need a tooth extracted, but no pain yet, should I take the small risk of necrosis or what other choice do I have? Should I stop the Risedronate? Many thanks, you've all been so helpful in the past three years. Very grateful........

What have you told your dentist and what did he / she say? I’d start by asking that.

It would also be worth speaking to someone at the ROS about it or the person who got you started on AA. It is a bit of a worry isn’t it. Well done on stopping the prednisolone tablets.

I'm no doctor..so you need to ask him/her. I've read some horror stories regarding extract while on these awful bone meds...so make sure you check! You talk to your dentist, too...make sure he's aware!

My dentist referred me to my local hospital for extraction of 2 adjacent molars in my lower jaw as I was taking Risedronate Sodium. I came off that bone medication some months prior to extractions in Aug and remained off for the protracted 5 months' healing process, with monthly monitoring from Sept to Jan. I think the size of the gap contributed to the slow healing and I resumed medication in Feb on GP advice during my annual review. I had previously undergone an extraction in my upper jaw by my dentist due to root exposure revealed in the preliminary examination required prior to starting RS treatment.

What advice have you received from your dentist?

Thank you all for your replies! My dentist did say I could have the extraction in hospital but because of the present situation I'm not sure I want to do that. If I stopped the Risedronate now he said that was not long enough to get it out of my system if I have the extraction in four weeks time when I've made an appointment with him . So maybe I can last longer before having the extraction? No idea how long it would take to get a hospital appointment. Will find out. Good to know your experience Dodo. Many thanks.
