Just a quick update I have been strongly advised before putting ANY other meds into my system ( ie HRT ) Is to consult with an Endocrinologist FIRST Makes sense ( ? ) as up until now ALL has been through my gynecologist (s)

Funny...my GP just suggested the same thing!! I think there are so many meds, so many side effects, that they don't/can't keep up with them all, and don't want the liability. I am now looking for an Endocrinologist:) ARGH

So I called my local Endo, and they acted like they had no Osteoporosis .?? The sec'y suggested a rheumatologist which I already have. I think he is pretty well informed, so I guess I will stick with him

I feel like we ALL need to be our own advocates, and become as well educated as possible. It is clear from what I have seen that most physicians know little or less than little about the medication's side effects, and these are OUR bones, and OUR bodies, not their bodies.

If someone gets stuck taking Prolia for life because they did not do research, that is a shame, but a lesson to us all to research, and then research more.

I have done lots of research, asked my gp to refer me to someone which he did and the doctor I saw was in the endo department. It was he who actually wrote my dexa report. This was great and after we had a chat and I told him my medical history in much more detail, he changed his mind on what he had suggested I do, in the report. Result! Unfortunately he has just retired so I do not know who I shall see at my next appointment in January. I saw him twice a year and he arranged all the blood tests that I wished to have checked at each visit. He was a real gem. I have a feeling that some people put on Prolia may well have done lots of research but if it had not been found out about these rebound vertebral fractures then however much research one did, this would be an unknown. We are the guinea pigs at this time. Not enough is known long term about some of these drugs offered to us.

So true Kaarina. That's why I have chosen nothing so far!

It was my endo who was pushng the prolia.apparently HE is the one promoting it and giving talks to other physicians..ie marketing it for the company! I got out of it as I was waiting for dental work, but that was completed a year ago..and I'v been not going back...

he did admit when I pushed that you can't get off it and usually for life...
