Any success stories in getting off Prolia

Hi Everyone,

I’ve had 2 Prolia injections and recently started to get side effects. It took me a while to put 2+2 together though. I’d like to get off this drug (no doubt like others on this forum) so I started to investigate....

I was in for a shock. So I’ve read and read and researched. I know about the massive bone resorption that occurs and the spontaneous VF’s. All horrendous.

My questions are:

1. Has anyone out there been successful in getting off Prolia?

2. For those that have got off it, what alternative drugs (if any) have been substituted? And has this been successful?

Being on bisphosphonates is nasty but being on this drug, which has only been tested for 10 years and to be told at 56 this is “for life” is shocking.

Moreover a recent study out there that after 10 years on the drug, after discontinuation - the gains were lost within one year and went from positive to negative rapidly.

So amid all the doom - are there any success stories out there??? I would love to hear some.

Thanks everyone.

Hi, Meganisi: I also research these bone meds, because my doctor said I needed to get on them because I have osteoporosis. I tried the pills, and ended up not being able to swallow, so stopped them after 2 days! I will NEVER try any of them again after researching the horrible effects that they cause. I cannot believe that they are still on the market and believe they should be pulled off immediately. We are being guinea pigs here and it's appalling! I'm 70 and I talked to my doctor. He put me on hormone replacement therapy instead, and I feel so much better now. HRT will build back bones..the good kind, so I'm happy that I was able to convince him to put me on these! I don't know what else to tell you, except for that. HRT is my answer..good luck..keep me posted if you like!

Hi Sweetsusie, thanks for sharing. So glad you found a better way forward. I wish I’d have done more research before starting on this nightmare journey.
