I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis and given calcium and vit d tablets. I found they made me feel a bit sick. One of my friends gave up on them for that reason. I cut them in half now and take a half a tablet 4 times a day instead. Works just fine.

Hi pattisue,
I was prescribed these tablets as everyone appears to be when dx with OP. I hated them and after a discussion with my GP we both agreed I have enough calcium in my daily diet so am now only prescribed a VIt D capsule to take daily. I am very happy with this arrangement.
I started to take OTC ones and they gave me really bad gas so I swapped to a different brand and discovered that they were fine!!!
I got a feeling like being jet-lagged and didn't know where my feet were with these. I thought it was the alendronic acid side-effect, but it stopped when I stopped the Ad-cal. I looked up this issue and found there is an increase in something called 'milk-alkali syndrome' since the increased prescription of these pills. I took calcium every day since my early twenties, and even then needed prescribed quinine to stop leg cramps- undiagnosed problem with gluten. I now can't take calcium pills without getting a sick headache and have had to just stick to the Vit D supplements. I have also increased sesame in diet (mixing with my flour) as it is high in calcium.
Also had to give up alendronic acid as made me really depressed.
The first calcium and vit d tablets I was prescribed were oval shaped. This time the tablets are round. For some reason I feel worse on these. They're probably a different brand, but would be interested to know if anyone else has found a difference in the tablets.
