Hi Finnlin, I had some bowel problems a year or so back and saw a gastroenterologist. I was given amitriptyline for about one year, on a low dose to slow my body down and it sorted it for me. I do notice that if I eat too much kale for instance this can affect things. I do have scoliosis but was told by the gastro it had nothing to do with that, with me. I had a colonoscopy and the result was, I was not sensitive to gluten, but had mild diverticulitis and it was nothing to worry about.

I am sorry to hear you are not feeling that great. I too have OP, OA and scoliosis. I try not to let it get me down. I keep busy, that is how I cope with it all. Chin up. :)

I just did a quick internet search to see if scoliosis can cause problems with bowel control, and yes it can. I would think that scoliosis could be helped through physiotherapy to help straighten the spine (carefully) which should relieve pressure on whichever nerve is being impacted. There may be other things that can be done. I hope your hospital appointment is helpful.

This is one of the sites I found:

spine-health.com/conditions...

"Degenerative scoliosis rarely impinges or irritates the spinal cord (or the cauda equina nerve bundle beneath the spinal cord) enough to cause significant leg weakness or bladder/bowel control problems."

Hi Finnlin

If you have a diagnosis of scoliosis you could always give the SAUK helpline a call at sauk.org.uk/ You will find the helpline number on their website. :)
