Next month, Blue Faery is having our first industry partners meeting at ASCO. It's an opportunity for our corporate council members to come together and produce a specific, measurable, actionable goal for October (Liver Cancer Awareness Month). If you could ask for anything specific to liver cancer, what would it be and why? Do you want to hear from experts? Do you think the public needs more education? We have two hours to get the council to agree to one goal.

I definitely think the public needs more education -- kind of debunk the myths out there surrounding liver cancer. I wish it could be detected earlier; Dave's was actually detected pretty quickly because he was getting regular ultrasounds/blood tests after his Hep C treatment, so they found the first lesion within four months of it developing. However, the VA delayed his treatment for so long and then didn't follow up quickly enough, and it grew and spread. So I would wish for the VA (and any hospital) to begin treatment IMMEDIATELY and not wait months and months for doctor appointments to open up, etc. It was very disheartening.
I would love to hear from experts, yes. Continued research into treatment options, especially for people with portal vein thrombosis. Education and screening tests for those at risk, so their cancer is caught sooner.
