Hi

Can anyone advise if should be concerned if my diastolic pressure is 59

I have been watching my blood pressure for the last couple of weeks

My systolic is between 123 and 127

However my systolic has also dropped to 59

I am 71 year old

Any thoughts welcome

What medications are you taking?

Some will lower systolic too much. eg Olmersatin.

If so ,you could try it every second day, if your doctor agrees.

Hi Madlegs

Thank you for your reply

I take

Bisoprolol 2.5 mg (one a day )

Candesartan 8 mg (One a day)

Apixaban 5 mg (twice a day)

That's quite a lot.

2 options-- as I see it.

Check each one on Google to see if they affect diastolic ,particularly -- or

Discuss with your doctor.

Good luck

I have the same issue and my specialist tells me it isn't a problem unless I have symptoms like feeling dizzy or fainting. If that happens we will reduce some meds.

Best Regards,

Tim

Hi Regist

Thank you for your reply i was worried as it is the weekend now and can't contact the doctors surgery until Monday

However i am going to phone and make an appointment

It's a relief to hear that your specialist says it's not a problem unless you have other side effects arising from it

Thank you and regards

Just want to say that Apixaban is a blood thinner and has no effect on blood pressure. The other two drugs you mention are for blood pressure problems.

Hi bamboo89

I was prescribed Apixaban because i was diagnosed with paroxysmal AF in September after hospital admission

I was already taking bp meds

However as soon as saw a cardiologist 🤣 she changed my bp meds to bisoprolol and candesartan

I had a 24 hour halter monitor at beginning October which only detected slow heart heart rate due to bisoprolol

Had an Echo in November not had any technical results but it said heart is normal size and normal pumping .

It was discussed in hospital that i had right bundle branch block , but no mention of that on my letter from cardiologist after the echo

Apixaban given as she said i could possibly have a small Pulminary embolism but no mention of that on letter after echo

So now i am back in the safe sometimes elusive hands of my gp .... ( joking ) but it does seem they are more elusive since covid

Cardiologist will see me if needed but for now no appoitments or further tests

Thank you and regards

Found this, although its an American article and from 2015, but I thought it might be of interest in your situation uab.edu/news/research/item/.... I suspect an adjustment in the dosage of your drugs would be helpful, if you can get an appointment or even a phone appointment with a GP. If not, I'd write to the cardiology department at the hospital requesting a review of your BP meds. Good luck with it...
