One Step At a Time/Meditation and Breathing

Since my dx of HBP, I have been working step by step to change my lifestyle - first, diet, then exercise, now I want to learn about meditation and deep breathing.

Have been listening to some guided meditation videos.

What is the best resource to learn deep breathing techniques that have evidence to help lower BP?

As well, do any of the training devices help?

I have a tough time with learning to meditate since I also have ADHD.

Thank you.

meditation is not at all easy. One’s thoughts jump around so much and one has to gently bring your thought back to the here and now, or to the breathing exercise, or whatever it is.

But it is surely worth doing!

I don’t know, myself, whether there is any research to show which resource is most helpful, since there are so many variables - one’s own personality being just one of them!

There may be topics here within Health Unlocked for those with ADHD or conditions around that, and you might find some help with appropriate charities. I think Google will find you a charity that would suit your particular circumstances- but on,y trust registered charities!!!!

I do hope you find what you need,

hi, I have learned to meditate with the online classes and guided meditations from the London Buddhist Centre. It’s been very helpful particularly for anxiety and depression, but also for breathing.

I find that meditation is difficult - my mind wanders off in ten different directions. What helped me was yoga. There is always about 5-10 minutes at the end of a yoga class devoted to meditation and relaxation (it's called sivasana). It takes a while but you can use that time to learn how to calm your mind. And of course the yoga itself is really good exercise!
