I’m having trouble finding a blood pressure medicine that doesn’t make me sick; has anyone used this testing to find the right medicine match?

hello Frances. There are many medicines for high blood pressure. I’m not sure what you mean by “used this testing”?

Are you in the UK? If so, your doctors surgery may be one of the many who have a pharmacist attached to them- not necessarily on the premises but employed by a group of practices to advise doctors and their patients. If so, your practice’s website would give a bit more detail, and you could ring the surgery and ask whether you could speak to that person.

The charity who specialises in this condition, Blood Pressure UK, might be able to help you. Have a look at their website and see if anything there resonates with you,

Hi Frances5050I have had a lot of problems with BP meds too. I have been referred to hospital to find something suitable but not sure what that entails. My appointment is not till January so I would be interested to hear how you get on. Good luck !

Hi, Oh god me too, I have been 5 years trying to get some answers without success. For me these meds are like poison. I too have been referred to a heart Institute in Dec.

Hi, Day Lewis pharmacy offers this service in the UK. It is a private service. Pharmacogenomics is a type of test which uses your DNA to predict your individual response to certain types of medication.

Hi, I have tried so so many blood pressure medications, that all of them make me feel life is not worth living truly. I was diagnosed as blood pressure medication intolerance. The sad thing is that doctor's have not a clue.

Hi Frances- I'm impressed with your knowledge of pharmacogenomic testing! I think it's a great idea- I had this done twice, very informative. It is being used in my hospital to tailor medications that are known to be effective or not. There are many Healthcare providers that are not believers, perhaps uneducated about this, so don't let them deter you. I believe Scripps Medical Center and Research facility are pioneers in genetic, genomic and pharmacogenomics. If you have a physician who will help you, I would absolutely get the information. I don't think my insurance paid for it, but it has been awhile. It wasn't extraordinarily pricey.I hope this was helpful and I hope you find the testing useful!
