Ramipril

Hi I've just started on Ramipril 5mg for high blood pressure and possible angina.

I'm having terrible problems sleeping.

Does anyone know if this wears off.

As otherwise I'm happy with it as it has brought my BP down from 150/98 to 106/82 in a couple of days.

Forgot to say I have dry cough common side effect apparently.

I'm trying to get Dr's advice this morning.

Many thanks

HI and welcome to the high bp club! I've been taking ramipril for three and a half years now and I can report that sleeping is better but I still have a slight cough. If it's too bad you could change to something else. Many people do.

Thanks for your reply

MYGP has taken me of Ramipril as they interact badly with my Bi Polar Meds.

He's put me on low dose Felodipine 2.5 mg.

He said if I get any side effects to come off them straight away and wait till I'm seen by a Cardiologist until I'm prescribed something new as Felodipine will me 3rd BP meds I've tried.

Thanks again for your reply

Kind regards

Yes, if one medication gives you side effects (after giving it a fair chance), your doctor has others to choose from. Many times, it just takes trial and error to figure out the correct one.

Hi Terenceh

My doctor changed my Ramipril medication to Losarton so could be an option for you but am having vivid dreams so am looking to change again to something else if I can!….. my BP is quite low and always had been so am looking to come off completely

Hi Rockstar

Thanks for replying

My GP put me on felodipine 2.5mg as every BP tablet I've been put on has caused insomnia among other side effects.

Kind regards

You can discuss a lower dosage. Ramipril can be taken in 1.25 or 2.5

I was put on Ramipril by

A&E Dr. And was starting to bring my BP Down but my GP has taken me off it as it has bad interaction with my Bi Polar Meds.

So I'm on low dose Felodipine for now till I see a Cardiologist.

Kind Regards

hi I can’t really answer sleep question as I don’t sleep well anyway but the dry cough does get better as time goes on.

Ask your GP for Candasartan BP medication. This BP med is well tolerated in most people.  'Ramipril has many side effects.' Also, avoid vegetable oils completely as it causes inflammation in the arterial wall. Check the ingredient listing on foods and you will find 99% of foods have these toxic oils.

Sometimes Melatonin helps before bed as some bp meds leaches that bit. Also Magnesium is imp.
