so i had some follow ups with my doctor and turns out there was a miscommunication on my dosage of amlodipine, it’s now been fixed and i’m taking the proper dosage, my blood pressure has been really well! and i’m glad it’s working☺️dont have to take the Coreg and i’m not experiencing the side effects that i had before and i’ve been doing pretty well.
Although i’m glad for this, i’ve seen a lot on this forum of people talking about really bad things that have happened due to amlodipine and it’s kinda worrying me, although i’m not experiencing side effects anymore (like dizziness) i’m worried that when i get older it’s gonna happen, idk if i wanna be on the medication for the rest of my life when i see the things that have happened to people because of this medication i’m scared it’s going to happen to me, idk what to do, should i stop taking it?

Hello celestw. I remember you posting before so I had a quick look back on your previous posts.
Firstly, please don’t attempt to change your medication without talking to a Health professional. I’m sure you’ve been reading up about high blood pressure and what effects elevated pressure could have on you if it isn’t controlled. You did say your weight was 150lbs but we don’t know your height, is your BMI within normal limits?
You said that the hypertension runs in the family, can you get some good news from them about it?
There are very many medicines available for blood pressure, so if you find one doesn’t suit you then your doctor may help you find one that does.
Above all, though, remember that the medical profession cannot do everything for us, it’s up to us to help ourselves in terms of lifestyle and diet, and there’s so much you can do to help your anxiety.
Celestw, I replied a few minutes ago but didn’t say a couple of things I meant to add. And these are - You’ve found some posts on the forum saying how amlodipine is affecting them. Just think of the millions of people in the world who are taking blood pressure pills, I’m sure the vast majority of them are getting along just fine so they don’t need to post.
And
Everything you take into your mouth and swallow will have some kind of effect on you, whether it’s broccoli or beef or burgers or medicines. I don’t think there are any medicines without some sort of side effects. Mostly of course the effects are good ones!
And
If you are reading up on things and getting upset because of them, please remember you probably don’t have a degree in medicine or pharmacology so maybe it’s best not to read these things at all.
Hi celestw. I'm glad your BP meds have now been sorted, you must be feeling really relieved about that. Regarding the side effects of Amlodipine, I am one of the people who takes it and although I have had side effects and are still getting them it doesn't necessarily mean that you will. We are all different and no two people react the same to one medication. Just judge them on how they act for you and how they make you feel. There are many people who take them and don't get any problems at all, so good luck and I hope all will be well for you. xx
even if there are no side effects what damage do these pills do to your body, its much better if you can control your bp naturaly,if u cannot its pills or live with high bp, in my day it was 100 plus your age and as long as bottom was below hundred it was ok, now they change the numbers a lot now its 120.90 i think, mine has never been that ,in my teens up to been 71 it was 140/95 or higher and i played semi pro football, now it went 220/120 last year when i had a virus but has not been lower than 150/90 without meds, even somedays mine 180/90 and hospital let me home at 185/95 , so dont worry and dont get stressed doing bp 3 times a day etc, once a week i use to do now i dont doit only every few months, its a anxiose experience for me and then bp goes up, try diet, exercise etc ,buy a reperate machine to do deep breathing, a lot use beetroot juice to lower it quick but it does not suit me,
oh wow! the thing is i do do diet and exercise, i lost weight (nearly 40 pounds) i’m now around 145lb and my BMI is 24.9, i eat low sodium and eat healthy, i’m moderately physically active, i do everything in my ability to naturally lower my blood pressure, my blood pressure was around 140/80 without meds and now it’s like 120/60 to 111/60, i take my blood pressure 3 times a week, i’m not sure the damage that my medication causes and that’s what scares me i’m afraid to get older bc of this even though it’s inevitable
140/80 without meds, id chuck them away and start enjoying life, thats perfect, i bet it would go a bit lower without the stress of thinking about pills, im on amlodipine on its own ,took all sorts this year im halving dose to 2.5 then off in new year , at least if its a bit high im getting blood to the brain lol, ive a few mates left with low bp ie 120/80 but they are all ill with something else they can hardly move, mind you they are my age ,
Hi celestw. Never stop taking medication without talking to your Doctor. I had bad experiences with amlodipine but you don't seem to be having bad side effects so its the right drug for you. It lowers your blood pressure well, it doesn't make you feel bad. Excellent. Always monitor yourself, get a BP machine to use at home. If you feel that you are experiencing side effects contact your Doctor immediately. Best of luck.
