Have you checked the leaflet in the box, it should give you a list of possible side effects on that. x

Thanks for your reply. In the leaflet hair loss is not mentioned as a side effect. I asked this question because I think I am losing a bit more hair than I used to.

Ramipril also didn't mention hair loss as a side effect but I have seen someone complained in this forum that he lost a lot of hair with Ramipril. I just started Candesartan so hopefully the new medication will adjust itself to my system after a while.

Yes, that sometimes happens with meds of all types. Good luck. xx

The sites drugs.com and rxlist.com do not list hair loss as a side effect of Atacand (Candestartan) which is an ARB (Angiotensin II receptor blockers)

On the other hand in this article below lists hair loss for ACE (Angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors) :

goodrx.com/blog/is-your-med...

Do note the article argues that only 1% of the patients are affected. The article gives lisinopril as an example. Rampril is in the same class which may shed some light on the person on the forum that lost a lot of hair.

Personally, I have taken both rampril and lisinopril and do wonder if my hair loss was caused by these ACEs.

I am now taking like you, an ARB ( Olmersartan) and don't think I am getting anymore hair loss.

To be fair to myself in terms of analysis, I have also taken Amiodarone , (don't remember if it was at the same time,) so with the double whammy, I should be bald.

The literature does not seem to support that taking Atacand would cause hair loss, but certainly keep track.

Hi Cuore

Thank you for your reply. I checked the link you gave me . Very interesting. I'm very glad that my doctor didn't prescribed me for an ACE inhibitor. I was on Olmersartan for about 10 years (suffered no hair loss) but have to change recently as it doesn't work anymore. Atacand is another type of ARB and it seems to be working for now on the hypertension side. Fingers crossed !

Wish you all the best

Smart GP compared to mine. However, it was a substitute doctor who prescribed rampril, and my GP went along with it at the time. That was during a period I did no research on meds. Silly me. I was the one who choose Olmersartan because my research showed ARBs are best if you have AF , and Olmersartan had good compatibility with arrhythmia medication. I am looking forward to 10 years.

Atacand (Candesartan ) , I read, is more susceptible to arrhythmia , which is a reason I did not choose that one. My cousin was taken off Candesartan when his arrhythmia acted up.

Equally wishing you the best.
