I stayed on for 25 days one of the worst decisions I've ever made. From day one I was tired and felt uneasy, I became dizzy, then got some mild swelling In my feet, final straw one night I couldn't sleep I drank 4 pints of water between 1am and 5am I had to make myself stop. Called Doctor stopped taking immediately and I felt good within 3 days all symptoms gone. I wish you all the best.

I was exactly the same, gave me horrible side effects. Still trying to find a medication that suits but it is very difficult. You are not alone.

Dearest Ylong66 I know it is 9 days ago but am so pleased that I have found some people here that are/were on the same medication as my husband is. He has been on amlodipine for just over a year, the side affects are bad, he can not sleep any longer than 2 hours then will keep waking up every 10 mins or less looking at the clock to see what hour it is. His eyes water, one foot and calf are swollen and he wears the non pinching kind, he complains of a red hot face/ears burning, etc.

Now, thank goodness I have read your post and others this has what causing all the problems my husband is getting, so should he just stop them or speak to his G.P first? Can not bear to see him going through these affects and have known some of the meds he is on was giving him these terrible side affects.

Can not thank you and the others enough for your answers to this question, now I know what and how much agony I have been through trying to cancel out different meds to find an answer as to why my husband has been feeling and having so many problems with this drug.

God bless you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

by myself not told doc, i tapered off by half every other day for a week, then for another week all 2.5 ,i was on 5mg ,its taken 5 months to nearly feel normal off them but started feeling and sleeping better after 2 weeks, they gave me anxiety/depression, dizzy felt like death for 15 months, suicidal thoughts, they were unbelievable side effects for me, no life on bp pills for me, id rather live with high bp than go through what the pills caused me.

Hello again peter999999999, this is exactly the affects these are having on him just like you had. Guess it is worth trying as if it has worked for yourself then he has nothing to lose. These tablets must be for an experiment of some kind as these affects are seriously dangerous, so pleased you have been so very honest with me as these are the exact side affects he is having.

Bless you for everything and most of all being so very honest with me about them. xxx

cut them down slowly over a few weeks i did 2 weeks and get him either a resperate breathing aid or do slow breathing,i do 5 secs in and 6 sec out very slowly,or 4 or 6 whatever is easy for 15 mins,i do that 4 times a day, sitting still or lying down, slows your heart rate down and relieves stress.then get him walking 3 times a day and eat good stuff.i take teaspoon of turmeric in hot milk, tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil in it twice a day. inbetween teaspoon of olive leaf extract,to get sleep a hour before bed a banana in warm milk and just lately a cup of knightsbridge sleep well tea.

Dearest peter999999999, I am so very grateful for your advice and will tell him about it. I never ever thought anyone would be so helpful and have been proved wrong by your and others advice and comments.

I read the leaflet this morning and am still in shock as many of the side affects mentioned he has had, not the serious hospital immediately ones but a puffy ankle, affected his nose by running etc., sleep well he has almost gone crazy due to the lack of it, even talked about not being here any longer, confused, not wanting to do anything and has just sat in another world, mood swings and so many other affects. So after reading this I said, right or wrong, you are not taking anymore of these tablets. Also got him to see the replies on here as I did not think he believed me but am pleased to say that it has done the trick, although he wanted to check with one of the G.P's about it (he worries), and about 10 mins ago G.P rang and was told about the side affects he was having. The G.P said "Oh there is nothing wrong with this medication, keep taking it for another week and take your blood pressure and we will see next week how things are".

I was livid because having seen how this medication has affected him and it has been so hard for me to tell him that one of the medication he is taking was giving him all these side affects.

I can not find the words to thank you especially for your continued help and I am so very grateful to you and everyone here for your kindness in helping me with these terrible tablets which have all these side affects on all of you who have had these and made you feel so very poorly.

This medication should come with a warning and the G.P's should explain what may happen to you when issuing them out like sweets, they have caused a nightmare with my husband and it is thanks to you, also everyone who has told me about them.

i felt the same, did not want to be here in this world, even got as far as going to write the goodbye letters ,but got no envelopes lol, that did it for me i thought might as well stop the pills and see would happens, well i felt better, sleep very slowely improved,5 months down the line still get odd side effects now and then ,god knows what they do to you,but i no it takes a long time to recover fully, the sleep issue was terrible 15 months of no sleep hardly, pacing up and down all night months on end it was torture, doc would not give sleeping pills till xmas for 1 week zopiclone then no sleep again till march this year when i stopped amlodipine, the dizzy spells went in a few weeks, headaches went after a couple of months but eyes still get very tired everyday although i sleep till 4 or 5 oclock, its not much but better than going bed at10 and awake at 11/

Dearest Peter999999999, I for one am pleased you had no envelopes and found the strength to fight these tablets, also think they should either ban or carry some kind of warning and when given this medication by your G.P he/she should know what can happen to some people. Just know that after a week is up and he has to make a phone call to the same G.P he is telling him that he is no longer ever going to take these again. My comments and thoughts only but seeing someone and hearing about these tablets have taken all those months of yours and my husband's lives away as you both have almost ended it, and it makes me so very very sad and cross that G.P's just give medication out and not keep a check on their patients.

I just thank God you and my husband will be alright and if it wasn't for you being so honest with me I dare not think of what might have happened. I owe you so much and I thank others, but yourself have been through hell with these, and I am so grateful to you for being frank and so honest about what these tablets have put you through.

Please there is just one thing I ask, and that is keep going as you will be back to being yourself soon, and I am so grateful and thankful to you for everything.

Night, night, xxxx

I too suffered severe multiple side effects from amlodipine for 18mths before my GP reluctantly took me off them. Worst BP meds ever. I'm still trying to get my life back. And hoping to find a suitable BP meds without such crippling side effects. So dont leave it too long to sort out your issues with amlodipine.Best regards.

Venishan24 you are so kind in answering my post and I thank you for this as deep down I kind of knew that there was something he was taking causing all these side affects to happen. Do wish leaflets would give a warning and G.P's would keep a check on their patients and not leave them to find out the hard way, it is so cruel.

Hope you are feeling much better without them of which I am sure you are, hope you find the right ones to help you.

Take care and hope you will be better soon xxx

I had horrendous muscle cramps, so bad that I couldn’t actually walk for 3 hours on one occasion. Rang my gp who advised me to stop taking them immediately.

Me too. I have just come off my 7th bp medication. Agonising pain after taking them after about a month. The last one was furosemide, this caused the most terrible itching. Now stopped it and on antihistamines. It’s all a nightmare. Fed up with it all. I had a heart attack in October and had a stent put in.

Hi I'm new on here and have a bit of a mad story but after some advice please!I was put on amlopidine by mistake by a doctor at my surgery, I don't have high blood pressure or angina!! I was meant to be prescribed amitryptaline but she gave me amlopidine by mistake! I was taking 1 /2 10mg tablets a day for 70 days before my own doctor realised the mistake but in that time I suffered every possible side effect, I spoke to my doctor throughout before the mistake came about and told her I was bang in trouble and my original nerve damage problems were getting worse ( swollen ankles, pulsating veins, dizziness, sickness etc) obviously I assumed amlopidine were a cheap version of amitryptaline so never thought it could be a prescription error 😞

Since I stopped the amlopidine I have had a constant period/discharge (7wks) more discharge than period, Has anyone else had any thing like this please, I'm seeing doctor tomorrow for swabs and waiting for us scan appointment but the surgery seems to not want to directly answer whether this is linked to this error probably because they realise what huge negligence error this is. Sorry for the long arse post lol
