Ramipril and Tinnitus

My Nurse/GP decided to put me on the ACE Ramipril 2.5 3 weeks ago. As soon as I started taking it I developed ringing in my ears. I persevered for a week but then stopped because it effected my sleep/life. Now 2 weeks later I still have the ringing. Does anyone know/had this before and how long it might take to stop. It definitely is Ramipril because I was fine before the day I started. My concern is that most online sites say If you have condition over 2 weeks since stopping medication it may have damaged ear. Tinnitus is not nice on top of BP worrys. Thanks

HI balin. I already had tinnitus before starting Ramipril a few months ago but whilst I was on them, it became increasingly worse. This was one of the reasons I decided to stop taking it and also I was put on another medication which had tinnitus as a side effect. This created a noise in my head like a space ship waiting to take off. I stopped both of them. I can't remember how long it took to get back to the level I was used to but you need to go check it out with your GP and mention what you have said here. Good luck.

Thank you springcross If I knew for sure I would return to normal and not have this terrible noise forever it would not be so bad. It is just when you go on the internet it says some meds can damage the ear and tinnitus could be permanent and having it for 2 weeks now is making me worried. At least its took my mind of BP!

Yes, I understand what you mean but have a word with your GP and hopefully you can have it checked out without having to wait too long. All the best. x
