Has anyone here successfully lowered their BP to normal levels through lifestyle changes (diet, losing weight, exercise etc) and without medication? If so, what did you do?

Hi irlcycles, I think they describe my blood pressure as familial as they have no idea why I have high blood pressure other than my immediate family all have it. I developed it whilst I was fit and active, and weight gain or loss plays no part in it. I have noticed if I drink alcohol it affects it. I went on the sugar free diet/no alcohol for 3 months and my BP dropped enough to give me dizzy spells/feeling unwell and so the doctors reduced my medication. I'm currently supplementing with magnesium to see if that brings it down, as I do like to have alcohol sometimes and the sugar free diet is hard to maintain. I do know other people who came off their BP medication when they lost weight, but as I said it makes no difference to me.

Hi

My meds caused atrial flutter so had to stop them ( only on for a few weeks) My BP is OK now after losing a little weight, low salt diet, and walking at least half an hour each day.
