Hi thomascooper. Your best ally is a good healthy lifestyle including a well balanced diet and at least 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise. You should include limiting salt intake in your diet. Try to give up smoking, if you can and limit alcohol intake.
For some people, that's enough. For others medications will need to be added in. These come in a variety of ways to help you and there are many of them. You should follow the advice of your GP with regard to that. Frankly, the majority of people end up on at least one medication, no matter how hard they try to do it with diet and exercise alone.
