Had my respiratory appointment

Just thought I’d update as I had my respiratory appointment this morning, it went as well as it could (I think).

So I do have large bullae (air pockets) in both lungs, but they’re bigger in my right lung, but my lower lungs are normal! As I’m not breathless and can walk quite far without becoming too breathless he’s happy not to operate! Apparently I would be a candidate for a bullectomy but my symptoms don’t warrant it yet (phew!). He’s happy to watch and wait for now. He explained I’m at risk of pneumothorax and said if that happens they’ll put a chest drain in to reinflate and that I shouldn’t go scuba diving but other than that I can exercise however I want.

They’re going to do a lung function test (on another day) so they can check it’s not the start of COPD and also so they have something to compare any future tests to, and they’re testing me for Alpha 1 anti trypsin (had bloods done today) due to a family history of COPD on my mums side. I’m assuming they will get in touch with the blood test results, or give them to me at the lung function appointment.

I’ve quit smoking and I’m going to start exercising properly, and try to get myself into a better pattern of eating and sleeping and hopefully my fatigue and dizziness will disappear, if not I’ll have to speak to my GP again.

I hope everyone is having a nice Friday xx

That's great that you know what's wrong and you now have a plan to help things improve. I know it's made a difference to me, eating well, increasing exercise and looking after my sleep.
