Shadow on Left Apex!!

In August I went for my COPD yearly review - I could not have a Spiro test because my eyes are injected monthly for Age Related Wet Macular Degeneration.

being I had not been feeling well and a strange but not frequent cough - she ask DR could I have X Ray.

I had X Ray and it showed Shadow on left Apex. After antibiotics I had second X Ray and shadow still there,

I had a CT Scan and shadow still there - Consultant rang me to say could be deep rooted infection 'TB' for example' or scaring. I have had scars for years but this is new and he did not sound convinced.

I was scheduled for a PET SCAN yesterday but the radioactive tracer was faulty and they rang me telling me not to come. Rang me back with a new appointment for next Wednesday.

This year COPD flare ups have been best for years but, my general health - I have felt unwell all summer. I suppose i wonder in the shadow cancer - So many reasons.

Has anyone been in same position and is so, what did shadow turn out to be? I am not in panic but this is worse than pacemaker I need fitted.

Thanks Ern

Hi Ern007 I'm in same situation. Was hospitalised in early May with chest infection xray showed white shadow on left lung where infection was. Had follow up xray 6 weeks later in June.. shadow still there.. Had ct scan with contrast 2 weeks ago.. Went back to consultant last Friday he didn't have scan results back. Said he would ring me but haven't heard from him since.. It's been a long 4 months wait to have scan and still no results.. I'm losing my mind at this stage..I thought he would have rang me today as Friday is his clinic day.. Am going to ring him on monday.. Good luck with your results.

Hi Hollyhops. Same after CR Scan. I rand the consultants secretary and he phoned me back.. next is a PET SCAN - Got up yesterday but they cancelled. the contrast has to be checked and mine was not safe. So I go next Wednesday , My CT results was the same = no change.. The longer to get in touch with you the better, I wish you well and thank's for reply.. I will post when I get results of PET Scan...Hope your results are good..

Ern, do not jump to conclusions. Knowledge is power . Get the PET scan and if it is suspicious for cancer, then deal with it then. Far better to know and deal with it , if need be, than to not know and just ‘hope’. Advice from a 7 1/2 year term lung cancer survivor, judg69

Judge69 Thank you for your reply. seems a long while since my first X ray - Not prone to panic have Heart, Lung and CKD problems, but this is something else. I have my scan re-run on Wed I suspect then it's wait and see, must be better with all testing over, 7 1/7 years survival. Glad you put that.

I agree 100% with judg69, wait until your PET Scan results, there is a the probability that you do not have cancer. I have had a few PET Scans, after some suspicious CT Scans, only one came back as positive. Worrying about it will not and cannot make any difference, other than make you ill,

2. Thank you 2 greys you for your reply. yes does make sense - I think what did me and I am used to being ill, this was different. I felt ill every day and and did not know why. I have ailments and treatments so no real reason to feel unwell. i think when I was found to have a shadow, I put two and two together and not sure the answer...I have my rescheduled scan on Wed after that it should help as it's down to the experts then..

A lingering infection would make you feel unwell.

I hope you get some answers soon and the correct treatment to help you feel better.

Thank you - I will phone Tuesday and see what is what. pet Scans are not great and often the isotope is faulty and you are cancelled..

Everything crossed that the scan goes ahead, waiting is very annoying when you don’t feel well and want answers.
