Hi everyone. I'm new here. I was diagnosed with copd in June. Prescribed Salamol and Anoro dry powder inhaler. My main problem is my breathing when walking. Having to frequently stop. Was wondering if anyone has any advice on walkers. Can they help maybe let me walk further. Also have lower back disc problem. I am 74. Would appreciate any advice please. Must say as well what a great site. Pat

Hi

A rollator or tri-Walker with seat can give you more confidence plus you can use the seat when you need to rest.

careco.co.uk/cat-wa01/rolla...

Can be found on e-bay or many second hand shops have them.

Hi, I do know that it's important to have one that's the right height. Best to get one from a shop where they can adjust it for you. They take a bit of practice to use correctly & not a good idea to get in a habit of using it incorrectlyPerhaps you can get one on NHS via the occupational therapist at your GP surgery. Worth a try as they will adjust it and teach you how to use it. One of our members got one the other day with a seat and is enjoying it

Thank you peege. Might be worth looking into that .

The height adjustment is the same as walking stick.

The top of handles line up with you wrist joint.

And you walk with one foot into the rollator, between the handles.

Far to often people push them in front with the risk of slipping, and the aid rolling away.

It might be a good idear to borrow one for a while and see how you get on with it. The red cross has some you can borrow.

Hi,

I use a Drive rollater, they are excellent, as a have to use amblalatory oxygen there is somewhere to put the concentrator, my version also has a seat so when you need a rest there is a nice padded seat to sit on!

I would say the only downside is that it is quite heavy., fortunately I have someone to help me.

My advice would be to go to a shop and get the feel of various ones and see what suits you. I agree with stone- UK look around and also look on care.co web site. Overall I would say that a rollater does make life easier when out and about.

Hi there I found a walker such a help and a great relief to me. I suddenly realised one day that I could walk and breathe a lot easier when pushing a supermarket trolley which is what made me buy a mobility walker I am fortunate that mine not only has a bag on it but also a seat, handy for any few minutes I might want to sit down for a breather. Do get one even if you buy a second hand one as plenty about most the time. I wish you well. Ruth

Hi panda10 I’m much the same as gingermusic .. hanging into the supermarket trolley was great, if only it had a wee seat!..

I have a 4 wheeled trolley with a seat it’s fantastic! .. I go for a wee walk then I have a seat .. I love it and wouldn’t be without it xx

Hi Candyred, So good to know . I wasn't sure I was just imagining that the trolley helped in supermarket. Find I don't like going out by myself because of the need to stop, so I think a trolley is the answer. Hopefully then be able to go to town by myself and go to a few shops instead of only one and feeling the need to come home. Hope you are well xx
