Flu jab - get before 11am!

Hi, I read an article in the paper in April that said test research had shown flu jab efficacy to be greatest when administered before 11am.

I made a note in my phone and plan to get mine tomorrow before 11am.

Why? Or are we at the numbers game again? Those who are healthy enough to get to the docs before 11am are those who are less likely to succumb any way? hmmm

Hi northernlass, I saw that too...perhaps it was in the I as I read it often.

Our flu jab clinic opened at 8.30 am last Saturday and they were queuing up before the doors opened.........the majority were in the older age group, shall we say.

Perhaps they were a bit like me , I cant sleep much anymore.

I think some medications work better at certain times of the day too.....our bodies have a circadian rhythm .

My app with my doctor is 8.40 am next week it doesn't mean I am any less likely to succumb, I just have to get up a couple of hours earlier in order to get ready. same for a hospital appointment you take what you are given if needs must.

I don't think that you quite get where I am coming from. Researchers base their conclusions on numbers and unfortunately are all too often looking to confirm a pre conceived hypothesis. Of course there will be people like you who make the effort to go early, even though they are struggling. It stands to sense, I would have thought, that people who are fragile and probably more likely to get the virus, even if vaccinated, would prefer a later appointment. Unless the group to be followed are selected and their times allotted before the vaccinations are given, it wouldn't be a very useful study. Maybe they did do that but from the press releases it seemed to have been very random.

For myself, I have been having the flu jab every year since 1978 at all times during the day. Apart from the year when the swine flu was around and I must have had a mild form of it because I was vaccinated, I have not had flu itself at all. Fingers crossed. This has probably put the cybosh on it and I will get a dose even though I was vaccinated at 10.30 this year.

Had my first dose of flue when I was twenty five never forgotten it. It took me about a month to recover and I was healthy then. It used to make me so cross when I was working to hear people say they had flue never a cold or virus .

Yes I have only had it once in my life, when I was in my thirties, I could not get out of bed, couldn't lift my head off the pillow. I also find it annoying when people come into work and say they have flu. I always say if you had flu you wouldn't be here ( and stay away from me with your cold)

Got mine, 2:30 in the afternoon, on a Thursday. What day of the week is best❓Always coming up with something. Last year, it was the flu shot doesn't work if you're on statins .Don't know if they're still saying that. Anyway, everyone get your flu shot...😁😁😁 Ruby🌹

Lots of things stop working if you're on statins. Avoid at all cost.

I have never heard that one about statins. Statins have a lot of bad press at the moment. I had to start taking them for high cholesterol. Never been bothered with that before . But my first blood test I had for tablets I take for psoriatic arthritis due to bad side effects showed it. I had my flu jag last week. And I have never felt better with my breathing since starting the statins if we took all these reports seriously we would never take any medication.

Just might be some truth in that one year I had my jab when I went to see the nurse 4.20 in the afternoon I have 7 courses of abs and steroids that year.

The drop in for flu jabs is only open from 12.00 - 2.30 I had mine Tuesday before last, that's the best I could get.

Hi northernlass, don't mean to sound sceptical but I think I'll take that article with a pinch of salt. There's always theories going around that, quite frankly, are rather dubious.

I had my jab at 11.45 so I'm in the ineffectiveness category!

Hope you all get your jabs at whatever time of day. Better to be safe than sorry.

Take care & keep well 🌷

Hi jessy, I just think the article said the jab may be more effective if taken earlier in the day......it would still be effective if taken later.

Remember the protection given differs between people and the strain of flu that occurs that year too.

I think it is a load of rubbish. A bit like eggs were bad for you at one time, as were many other things.

The immune system is supposed to be more responsive in the mornings?
