pip appointment

got a pip appointment on august 15 for my copd condition as any body else experienced one of these interviews and what should i expect

Hi

Yes but mine was a home assessment. I am on oxygen 24/7 with severe COPD, and explained that I would be unable to travel to a medical centre. It wasn't too bad. I was asked to close a door so my cat couldn't come into the room; apparently she was afraid of cats! Really! Anyway, I replied that I didn't have the breath or energy and she would have to do it herself. You have to be careful about complying to some of their requests. Don't do anything that makes you really breathless or you will be marked down. Then she checked resistance movements in my hands etc. Always describe your worst days not your best.

I was awarded standard care & standard mobility.

Hi I had my assessment at the atos office I took a taxi. My breathing was really bad on the day. And the assessor could see how bad I was walking. I refused to do most of the things she asked me to do due to having psoriatic arthritis too. I was awarded standard for both.

I had mine at home. I refused to do anything they askedbecause I wasn't going to waste my energy or make myself breathless. Make sure you get enough points for needing help with cooking or showering (as the others said, you are describing your worst days). to my surprise I got quite a lot of points because going out makes me anxious because of breathlessness and worrying how far the disabled spaces are from where I need to be and I can't use public transport. I was under 65 at the time and got standard care and higher level mobility. Good luck.

at first they were going to mine at home then they decided against told me to go to derby i protested but they told me thats the way it as to be

They really are so and sos. Remember they are watching you from the time that you pull up in the car park. Refuse to go for a walk for them-it is too difficult and a waste of your breath and energy. They told my uncle that the lift had broken and that he had to go up the stairs. He sat down in reception and said he would sit there until they came to him. Then surprise, the assessor arrived, opened a nearby door and invited him to the ground floor room.

why do they do things like that my doctor told me i should get help for my copd as my has health as declined so much in the last 18 months

Do you have a letter from your Doctor? That would be very helpful,especially if he/she suggested that you apply for the PIP.

Hi bigaitch666 assessments vary a lot on depending on the assessor themselves. I suggest taking someone with you so you have a witness as not all assessors tell the truth. Fortunately they are in the minority.

As already advised, tell it like it is on your worst day. Don't do anything that you are not comfortable doing especially if it cause you pain or breathlessness. One of the things they do is knock a pen or something off the desk to see if you pick it up. If they do, leave it.

my husband had his pip assessment on 1st august. he has severe copd we went to the centre in taxi, it is only 10 min from our home but no parking.

the nurse was very nice she could see my hubby's breathing was bad. he is breathless even at rest. the walk from the entrance to the waiting room was about 50 meters.

she asked questions about what he can and cannot do for example he cannot lift his arms above his head for more than a few seconds,

she said she was not going to ask him to do anything {touch his toes lift his arms} as any movement makes him breathless.

she asked about his tablets and inhalers, hubby put a claim in for pip based on his copd and being so breathless so we had not put a big list of all his illness.

she asked about hobbies does he drive.

she said it was about 50 meters from door to office and did he need to stop,he told her he did twice.

i think you need to think before you answer each question,stick to what you say on the form. we came out thinking that went well but now i'm not so sure. my hope is that someone who understands spirometry results looks at his.
