Hi  Mike

I have severe COPD and only 15% lung function.  Sorry, that's sounds a bit competitive.I have been drinking beetroot juice for about 3 weeks now, and can't say that I have noticed any improvement yet.  The drink is already prepared in a carton but its supposedly organic!

Take care

No problem. I really empathize with you and all people with severe breathing problems. Life is becoming a real struggle to do even the simplist of tasks thats why i thought i give it a try as they dont seem to be doing much in the way of research into our issues. Oh well i woke up this morning so its got to be good. Take care and keep on breathing.

I also tried beetroot juice, gave it a good go, used the Beet-it brand. I found the tast of it neat from the carton unpalatable so added apple juice, then tried it topped up with sparkling water, that was just about OK for me.

Sad to say I didn't feel any benefit. Certainly didn't boost my stamina, but I do have other problems going on with thyroid/adrenals/hormones (that I am now adressing) so that might be why I didn't do well on it.

Not all nutrition works for everybody so keep on looking. One day they might try stem cell techology when they realise the country could save millions on current treatments and benefit payments.

Hi Mikeadams51, I wrote a post some time ago regarding beetroot juice and i take it every morning, but i juice a FRESH one. That is the only way to take it, anything in a carton has preservatives added. Mine is mixed with a number of fruits and veg. Whether it does any good or not i can't really say as i take cannabis oil, which does work. My breathing has improved to the point where most days i don't feel ill. Beetroot juice and all the other fruits and vegetables i take are to increase my stamina and fight off any infections.

Just want to clarify that not everything in a carton contains preservatives. Checking labels will be a guide.

The Beet It brand (UK brand that is also exported) is organic and contains 90% pressed beetroot juice, 10% pressed apple juice and nothing else. It is 'not from concentrate' although it is pasteurised which gives it a long shelf life at ambient temperature unopened and advised to use within five days and keep refrigerated after opening.

I bought mine in bulk (about 6 or 8 cartons I think) from Amazon as I can't get it where I live

Heat damages nutrients, but enzymes are particularly sensitive to heat. This is part of the reason long-life juices you can buy at the store aren’t as good for you as homemade juice. To increase shelf-life they have to pasteurize (which kills bacteria by heating), but that process also damages the beneficial enzymes. You really want to consume unpasteurized, raw juices.

As far as I know Mike, all good fresh foods will benefit us. All reddish coloured fruit and veg are said to have antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties, so I eat them everyday.

Certain sure they are not a quick fix, but if we eat them daily then according to current nutritional thinking I will be giving myself the best shot.

Hope your day is wonderful.

Hi Mikeadams51, beet juice is supposed to help COPD & high blood pressure. I am giving it a try but it is not a cheap option. Organic juice in Sainsbury's with no additives is £2 a carton and only has a five day live. The dried beet juice powder ranges from £2.50 depending on the size of package, but has very little instruction about how to make it up. It can be sprinkled in sauces ect and added to various foods. In respect of your illness it is supposed to reduce inflammation in COPD sufferers. One side effect for many is Diarrhea plus  other minor things. Worth reading up on before commencing a regime of daily beet juice.. I am not impressed so far, but guess it takes time to notice improvement.

£2:45 at tescos this morning. Im not sure how much to have daily but could work quite expensive so im hoping for a minor improvement at the very least
