Constipation

Adding to the list of things I am having constipation now joins it, does anyone with Emphysema have this problem?

I am wondering if any of your medications would cause constipation, I have been put on two new ones, both of which would cause this condition. With this in mind I bought myself a packet of figs and am consulting my GP. Good luck!!! x

As Pergola says, it could be medication, particularly some painkillers but are you having enough fluid and fibre in your diet?

Now my husband has trouble when he is on antibiotics and steroids. Syrup of figs usually does the trick - but don't leave it go to the doctor. TAD xx

A teaspoon of ground flax seed in yoghurt and a large peeled Kiwi fruit every morning. Hope it helps,constipation is awful good luck . Bulpit

I have COPD, also used to suffer with constipation, and for the last year or so have been taking 'Fibogel' which solved the problem. I buy the sachets on line and take one in the morning and one at night. It's mixed with a glass of water and, it seems, provide the roughage the body needs. Try it, what have you got to lose ?

I have had that problem mainly due to my Co-Codamol30 I was taking. Plenty of fluids and fibre. My GP gave me Senna but the results were not as expected and made it difficult to plan the next few days.

OH, yes and was told by doctors it was mixture of meds i am on,i have COPD so we in the same ball park. i tried everything till district nurse said try........MACROGOL. free on nhs they come in satchets j can take up to 8 per day an d after a few days things will start to work again, slowly reduce daily doses. I am down to 2 satchets a day now and find myself back to normal , it might take a little longer but don't give up. N opw i am regular and on 2 satchtes a day. good luck hope this does help you .

I take morphine and that makes you constipated

Doc tells me its the meds and so prescribes Lactalose and it works. Constipation can be worrying when I am suffering exacerbations and breathlesness and weakness. Its woirth a try and can be as gentle or as ourging as you decide by altering the dosage.
