Low dose antibiotic
Rather than antibiotics you could try cutting out all bladder irritants, carbonated drinks, tomatoes, citrus and caffeine. Also try cranberry extract and d-mannose supplements. I have bladder issues and used to get lots of infections. I still get them but I do the above and have found it helps. I also take uva ursi when I get cystitis symptoms and that seems to help. Also taking bicarb in water to alkalise the urine will take the sting out. It's taken years for me to work out what I need to do. There's lots of information out there. I joined a group on Facebook but people with bladder and bowel problems and got lots of help there.
I know of people taking low dose antibiotics but I've tried to stay away from them until I have to take them. Good luck with urology. It's a slow process even when you get seen because I'm 2 years down the line and still don't know what's wrong with me.
Thanks for replying and all your tips I take d mannose I don’t have caffeine or acid foods as I have just had surgery for oesophagus cancer , think the doctors has given up now with trying different things I find it irritating that they give you stuff without knowing what is happening will try the other thing you mention thank you x
My GP said they don't have the answers, a lot of it is trial and error. I know myself better than them so I'm always looking and trying different things. I read years ago about the link between uti's and eating chicken. I dismissed it, but by chance I've not eaten chicken for a few weeks and my symptoms haven't been there. I think it's a case of trying everything. There is also a link between the menopause and irritation and cystitis. Not sure what age you are but could be worth looking into. A dr was on TV a couple of weeks ago saying all women on hitting menopause should take a vaginal hormone pessary and it should be taken for life. Its a connection between hormone levels dropping and utis again. It's worth looking into while you're waiting. Hope you get some relief.
My urologist prescribed low dose Trimethoprim which I took for about 2 years and never had a problem since.
