Looking for advice on change of meds.

Hello,

I have been taking Diltiazem (Adizem XL 240mg) daily at noon and it is slow release over 24 hours.

Now I have to stop taking it and start Ranolazine 375mg modified release, twice daily.

So do I take the last Diltiazem and then take the first Ranolazine 24 hours later at noon the next day?

Would that mean I will take it at noon and midnight, which is impractical for me as I am always in bed by 10, or can I adjust the times somehow?

I rang the surgery to ask but didn't get a straight answer, so I'm hoping someone here will have had a similar experience and be able to help. Thanks.

Ask your pharmacy who will be able to give you the answer, especially one who has access to your medical records . No-one on here should be a giving advice about how to take medication. And if they give their own experience it may not be applicable to you. Finally I would find it very disconcerting to have a asked my GP surgery a very relevant and important question about medication, only to find' I didn't get a straight answer'. That's what they are there for.

Thanks for your reply.I agree with everything you have said.

I collect my medication from the surgery, so there's no pharmacy with access to my medical records it's all done in-house. And it is disconcerting, especially in light of that fact.

I will ring them again and be more robust.

Thank you, I needed a push and you have given it to me 😁.

Your doctor (if you are in the UK) should be employing a pharmacist along with other surgeries locally. You should be able to speak to them via the receptionist (though you might have to make an appointment just like you do with a doc or nurse).

We’re all different. You need to ask the person who prescribed this for you.

Ask to speak to the surgery pharmacist.

I spoke to them originally and didn't get a proper answer, but I have spoken to her again this morning and it's all sorted now, thanks.
