Blood Pressure After Exercise

Hello

I have controlled BP using two medications - Losartan 100mg and Amlodipine 10mg.

I have noticed recently that my diastolic reading after exercise is dropping below 60 (around 56) and is around 65 in the evening. It maybe that I have lost a bit of weight since Christmas and reduced my salt.

Typical reading is around 105-110/65-70

Is it normal for the diastolic to go below 60 after exercise and does it matter. Sometimes I feel a little faint but mostly ok.

I'll check in with GP but wondered if anyone else had similar issue.

Thanks

if you take your pressures at different times of day they are going to vary. The website of Blood Pressure UK, the specialist charity, goes through this in more detail.

It's normal for it to drop. At my cardiac rehab classes we'd go through 15 min of cool-down exercises to keep people from getting light-headed. (The nurses also said that not enough hydration will make it worse -- so make sure you're drinking enough during/after exercise.)

that’s about the same BP reading as me, whether I have exercised or not. When I check on the NHS blood presssure checker it says healthy!

The meds are taking effect, however keep an eye on the BP figures and tehn discuss with your GP. I did that for for my meds because I found my BP going too low and causing dizzy spells which I don't like. I an now on lowest doses of my meds and in control of my BP.

As others have said I think it's normal for BP to drop after exercise, and have had that confirmed by cardio doctors and nurses. I had a blip in in 2023 when mine went to 90/60 at the end of one my gym sessions at the rehab centre. I felt really dizzy and was put on the floor and only allowed to progress, gradually, from lying to standing as my BP stabilised. Knocked me a bit and I did, eventually, have a second angiogram to check me out. In the end it was put down to dehydration although my BP medicine was reduced slightly afterwards. It was during quite a hot spell which probably didn't help but I no make sure I drink plenty whilst exercising.

Maybe your medication needs reducing. Worth talking to your GP.

I know what my doctor would say....if you don't feel dizzy, then it's okay.

I like you was on losartan 50mg and amlodipine but BP dropped significantly, Losartan was stopped in the end but BP started to rise again few months after, i would say best thing to do is to keep an eye on BP and check it regularly to monitor.

My blood pressure is lower by about 20 points when I swim every day. I've read that this is a good thing as long as you feel okay, which I do. Unfortunately I haven't been able to swim for nearly a week now because of a chronic ear problem, and my BP has shot back up to about 155/80. (When I swim daily it usually stays below 130/70.)

A couple of weeks ago my BP jumped and has been averaging in the high 160s/70s, though it's slipping down just a little. On Sunday at 0600 it was 172/78. I did a five-hour walk, taking in a short steep hill seven minutes from home. Five minutes after getting inside, my BP was 130/68. At 1800 it had crept up to 152/74.

Much the same with a shorter walk the Thursday before, except BP dipped to 122/78

I've also been painting fences that entails bending down a bit, up to four hours yesterday and today, with only minor fluctuations in BP, but making me more tired than the walk.

(In November 2023 I had a stressful and tiring 30-mile journey by public transport to see my TAVI heart surgeon, who measured my BP at 155/85. He was unconcerned about the systolic level as long as the diastolic reading did not exceed 90.)
