What a day

Spent the day in my local A&E.

Had an uncomfortable feeling in my chest since Tuesday afternoon after walking felt lightheaded and dizzy did an e consult form to get an appointment with my GP yesterday as the burning feeling was still there.

Surgery rang this morning to offer an appointment which I accepted with the nurse practioner not 5 minutes later the surgery changed their mind after the nurse looked at my notes and asked me to present to A&E where I've been since 9am this morning was let out at 6pm.

Hospital said it sounds like costacondrotis caused by exertion never had it before.

Any ideas on how I can relieve the discomfort the doctor suggested Gaviscon.

I don't think it's up to any of us to contradict the doctor, especially after they've seen the results of the tests and examination that you presumably had today. Indeed we aren't allowed to make suggestions, and even if people post about their own experiences of costacondrotis and the medication they took, it would be unwise to follow their examples.

(As it happens, I had my own set of peculiar symptoms, including a pronounced heart beat, this afternoon and was wondering whether to ring 111 for advice, but they passed within an hour. I think I know what brought them on, with physical exertion being one reason.)

Not heard of this before so had to look it up.

In the great scheme of things it seems it is unpleasant rather than life threatening but you may need anti biotics. Probably best to approach your GP to ask what treatment is needed, or does it just need rest and limited exertion

Costochondritis is an inflammatory condition and is not routinely treated with antibiotics

Hi there sorry to hear of your problem. I had a similar experience recently and A & E also diagnosed Costachondritis. They said it would resolve on its own no treatment. Personally I think it is gastro related but I am seeing GP next week so will go from there. Surprised you were advised to take Gaviscon for it but who knows ? Take care

The pain from costochondritis is usually sharp and worse when you breathe in - google.com/url?sa=t&source=...

Pain from reflux or Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is usually relieved by an antacid like gaviscon

I have had both and GERD or indigestion pain can be very similar to heart-related pain (which I have also had) - but heart related pain can also affect your breathing and make you feel tight chested

If your pain continues and/ or gets worse after you have tried Gaviscon or other antacids, I feel you should ring 111 and get medical advice
