Hi everyone, haven't posted for a long time, forgot how to, hope this will be successful. I have had a holter monitor fitted yesterday, it's Lifecard CF. Should be returned Monday before 9am.
Wasn't given any instructions , only not to shower with it.
However, this morning the display reads: recording terminated battery low.
What should I do? No instructions given re: battery.
Should I remove it ? What is the point having this cumbersome object with wires hanging down, and the stickers which irritate my skin attached to me?
Any advice? Thanks
Monica

Personally I would remove it and explain when you take it back on Monday. Was it for 24 hours? If so it might have ran out because the monitoring has finished?
Oh, hi, good morning! Thank you for replying, no, the monitor is to be worn until Monday morning. So, from Friday afternoon throughout the weekend.I asked uf I need to do anything at all, answer was no. Just avoid getting it wet. No mentioning of the battery. It is really irritating my skin, the top electrode is placed on top of my chest, half positioned over the scar from AVR which is still red and very tender after 5 years!
The one under my left breast is scratching my boob.
I think I'll remove the damned thing, as they have obviously failed to check that battery is good.
It is clearly not recording, as yesterday there was time showing and date just like a display on a watch.
It's so annoying because you finally think you are getting it done now and then that happens. I was once due to have 24 hour blood pressure monitor fitted and the other person didn't return it. Luckily I was called to tell me so I didn't turn up but I was ready mentally and physically I got it done eventually. I had deep grooves on my arm where the cuff was. I hope you get it sorted and it recorded in the night at least
Hi Was just about to take it off, and noticed it was back on, recording!! That was at 9am.
Madness!
So kept it on.
My brother ( in Czech Republic) messaged me, he's having one in March and was told to bring his own batteries. 😜
The thing is though, if I have had an episode during the time it was not recording ( probably charging) then that wasn't caught on it!!! And long was it off , that I don't know.
I had one like that which was particularly annoying as the idea was to see how my heart reacted while having an invasive oesophageal procedure. The monitor was fitted at my local hospital and my oesophageal procedure was in London so I went to the london hospital cardiology clinic and explained my situation. They fitted me with a far superior heart monitor so I didnt miss out on the dual test.
My local hospital often gives low battery monitors which is beyond frustrating even when I have asked them to check first. Obviously the London hospital took off the defunct monitor and said to tell the local hospital to test the batteries first. No point wearing one that isn't working, they are cumbersome enough when doing their job, useless when not. Best wishes.
Wow! I agree , it's stupid to fit patients with less than perfectly functioning gadget! What is the point otherwise exactly?🤦♀️
The thing is , since I posted my question and also tried to contact the cardio department where I didn't get to speak to anyone and had to record my query, which is useless to me anyway...the 'thing' came back to life!!!😜
Now it's working and recording! Hurrah! However, how is it going to record possible 'event' that could occur during the pause... which I can guess it needs to recharge the battery?? Very 18th century in my opinion!🤦♀️🥺
Perhaps go with the flow and see it through. They may decide to give you another monitor, all you can do is explain what went wrong. Can you recall what time the monitor failed they may be able to glean something from the monitor covering that period if you know the time line. Good luck.
Hi , I woke up at 7am, and noticed it. But don't have a clue when exactly it stopped before I saw it. I will wear it regardless until Monday morning . Thanks.😊
I've had several and never had a phone number to ring. My last one all but one of the electrodes detached. We don't even get to see anyone when we take it back- just dump it in a box. When I rang them later they said I should just have fastened the press studs back on. Never had the battery go though.
I have to go to the hospital to have it fitted teh take it back myself by a very strict set time. One time I asked my husband to drop it off when he went shopping and they phoned in a panic asking where it was. He was only about 5 minutes late. They have so few and needed it for the next pat ient.
Yes take it off and return as requested on MOnday with a message. They should have checked it before sending it out. It's possible it took enough recordings to get a diagnosis while it was working but you may need another one. If it's like our hospital the minute they get one returned, the download the readings and send it straight back out again to someone else within an hour. The last one I had , also over a weekend, all but one of the press studs on the electrodes fell off but they had enough to see what they wanted to see. Someone obviously forgot to change the battery.
Hi Qualipop, thanks for your post!😊This gadget is evidently obsolete! Probably loaned to the hospital by a museum!!
Had it fitted Friday about 2pm, no advice, no mention of the battery, on Saturday morning at 7am when I woke up, it read: recording terminated, battery low...I was quite puzzled and annoyed, no idea how long ago it stopped recording !
I find the electrodes uncomfortable, scratchy, the one in the middle of my chest has been stuck half way across my scar from AVR and which even after 5 years is still red, tender , often sore. Can't really touch middle of my chest. It had developed into keloid soon after the surgery.
However, just as I was going to remove the monitor, it started recording! At 9am.
So, persevered with it...this morning at 9am again it terminated recording until 12 noon...
What is the point of having this attached to me, when it doesn't work non stop? Whilst the battery recharges it's not monitoring my heart activity, I could be having and episode during the pause...which is at least 3 hour long!
My brother who lives in Czech Republic is having monitor fitted in March and was told to bring his own batteries! 😜🤦♀️ That's a new one!! 🤣 We aren't required to do that in UK ....yet!!🤔
I certainly don't want another one!!
I always end up with red itchy circles caused by the electrode patches for a week or longer. Evidently I'm allergic to the glue. And what's more...re: what you have written about the process of monitors being returned and given to another patient straight away, I noticed the damned thing stinks of cigarette smoke!!! I have a very acute sense of smell and cigarette smoke is one my pet hates!!
I get blisters under the electrodes, they itch and take weeks to heal even when I ask for the hypoallergenic ones. I hate them but when they work, they do give a good 24 hour ECG which you couldn't otherwise have unless you were in hospital attached to their monitors. I'm sure you should have enough readings to see what's going on but you can always insist on a replacement.
I’ve had loads heart monitors over the last year whether in Hospital or taking home. Home ones always have new batteries. Cleaned and sanitised before use. Hospital cables are all sanitized in sealed bags. Hospital ones have a charger you plug into when getting low.
Sadly there are some hospitals with poor hygiene standards. I do know some. Others are spotless.
its a 24hour monitor. You can remove it when you wake this morning. When you return it tomorrow tell them battery webt flat, also record it on the activity paper they gave you.
Hi and thanks for a tip😊It doesn't add up to 24 hours of recording really! Had it fitted Friday at 2pm, recording terminated sometime during early hours of Saturday. Recording time 16-17 hours approx.
I will persevere with it though till Monday morning.
But will pen the time of pauses for battery recharging on the activity paper. 👍
your cardiac diagnostic team not doing their job properly . Its usually 24 hour , not that it goes on for 24 . My last one was fitted at 10am friday was told to take off upon waking Saturday 6am. Must be returned my 10am monday. Leads came off , didnt stay stuck at around bedtime. There was suffused data on it to give answers. Those pads hate my oitly skin.
Wow! Those pads give me rash , obvs I'm allergic to them. Always have itchy red round circles for a week or longer !Don't know which museum they got this piece of junk on loan from? And it actually stinks of cigarette smoke! 😡
I would feel the temperature of the thing, that smell is something burning out. It’s actually the smell that the circuit board give off when components burn out. Worse still if the lithium battery , if it has one, gets super hot can cause fire that you can’t put out ,short of dumping to in water.
It sounds like a 3 day monitor, obviously they did not correctly check the equipment before issuing. I would take it off as pointless if not recording. But they may ask you to repeat the test Hope this helps
The lady in the next bed to me in the hospital we both had telemetry connected and hers stopped working saying battery change needed. She went home with a new battery and mine came off on discharge
They should check the battery before fitting it to you.Maybe they just forgot, I had a bp monitor awhile back and it stopped working, it turned out that it wasn’t connected properly.
