hI had my icd replaced in Jan went like a dream went in hospital bout 10 o'clock back home for bout 8 same all done
no it does not hurt at all. They just make a small incision above the place where the pacemaker is fitted and change the battery that way. The incision does not hurt at all as they give you a local anaesthetic. You keep the incision covered for about a week. Then you can have a shower as normal.
Had mine replaced in Jan after 8 years. Seemed easy to get out and ok to put new one in. The plus side is all the leads are already there. The only things I was not prepared for were the smell (I think they use a plasma tool to cut) and some pushing and pulling on my shoulder.
I was also paranoid about the battery running out! Don’t be. Mine was 1 month left for about 3 months!
The replacement is way simpler than the original. Good luck
it’s the pacemaker that they change not the battery. So it’ll be similar to when you had your first one fitted. Hopefully the leads are still okay
had my original pacemaker replaced December 2020. In at 10 am . Last one to be seen at 4pm. Very straightforward. Felt a little pain during the procedure but asked for more local anaesthetic which was given and solved the problem. Discharged at 6. Slight discomfort for first few days. Soon eclipsed as I developed Covid a couple of weeks later. Good luck but I’m sure all will be fine x
my understandings is that they change the whole unit. Expected battery is 8-10 years
A lady friend of mine had hers replaced the same day i had mine put in for the first time. It took quite a bit longer for her as it was a bit stubborn to get the device out. However it was so worth it as she now feels normal again. The skar on my chest still gives me gip compared to her, but then again im a male lol.
